It has occurred to me maybe a half dozen times in the 2-1/2 years I've owned mine. I think it has always been when the person in front of me was turning off the road using a turn lane but not getting far enough over and I was attempting to pass them in the drive lane. There has never been anyone behind me when it has occurred.

It seems to kick in at the very last minute. I tested it with a stroller nearby.. after the baby was removed.

Did it slam the brakes on hard or just slow you down a little?

It wasn't a real test without the baby in it

If your trucks is equipped is ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) it will do exactly that.

You can adjust the sensitivity of it without turning it off completely. I regularly drive in Dallas traffic and turning things down helped with people who cut you off and merge without warning. There are real world situations that it's a bit hard to deal with.

I experienced low speed auto braking the other day in my 22 PB and it was indeed very abrupt - much more so than I would have expected. I was leaving a parking lot and the car in front started to turn into the street and then stopped for no reason. My attention was briefly diverted to oncoming traffic and not on the car in front. Truck stopped maybe 10 feet short of the car, there was still room. I was just crawling along and don't think I would have hit the car but it was good to know it was working. However, the way the truck slammed on the brakes my first thought was why, followed by a quick look in the mirror to see if someone behind was about to hit me. Having said all that, it appeared to work as designed and maybe saved me a fender bender.

Very abrupt slowing of the truck; something like from 30 to 10 mph in 20 feet? Actually, it engaged at highway speed once, now that I think about it. I don't recall the exact scenario, but it was at night and the weather was bad and the F-350 two vehicles in front of me got sideswiped by a semi that ripped the front bumper off the F-350. The car in front of me tried to dodged the bumper by going onto the shoulder and hit it and sent it spinning into me. I was on top of it before I could react. The truck slowed me to 30 but I still went over the bumper, though nothing was damaged on my truck and I avoided hitting any of the other vehicles.

I turned it off in my 21 before I left the dealer parking lot 3 years ago. I was in a 2020 loaner that had it, back when my 18 was in the shop. It was snowing, and one of those chunks of snow fell off the bumper of the car in front of me and skidded towards me. Truck sensed it and jacked on the brakes. Nearly lost control because it was slippery from the snow.

Thanks for the input. It’s very difficult to decide whether to use the feature or not based upon the various response. I do however make a couple of 1500 mile trips per year and leaning towards using it on them. Find myself distracted fiddling with navigation and such at times and figure it may be beneficial more often than not.
