Default Changes / Updates Ford needs to make on the 2021

Maybe this thread (or something similar) should be a sticky - maybe some of these will get back to Ford?
(Anybody know of a GOOD customer feedback site at Ford?)

Maybe I overlooked a similar thread, but I went quite a few pages back & didn't see one.

After living with my new truck for a while, here are a couple of updates I'd like to see made:

1. Changing speeds after reading speed limit signs: I've been playing with this lately - not a bad feature to keep you from missing a speed change BUT Ford needs to allow the truck to coast (when decreasing) to the lower speed limit rather than hitting the brakes (or regenerative / dynamic braking?) to lower the speed - it's a bit jarring when it's almost as someone jabs on the brakes to bring it down from 60 to 55mph, etc.
It's also a bit jarring when it's like you stab the accelerator to up the speed - would be a much smoother / relaxing drive if the truck would slowly accelerate to the new, higher speed.

EDIT: Guess you can forget #2 below - see post #6.
2. Need a keypad to appear on the screen when you have an incoming call, especially when using Android Auto.
I wouldn't think this is that unusual - I have my home phone set to also ring my cell phone but I have to hit "1" to accept the call.
If not running Android Auto, I can hit the Phone button on the 12" screen & hit 1, but if running Android Auto (which replaces the Phone button) I have yet to find a way to hit 1 easily - I'm having to dig out my phone in order to access the keypad.

3. A few more colors on the 12" display in map mode - I keep mine on the night setting all the time as the day setting is just too bright.
It would be nice to mute the white a bit OR be able to turn down the brightness on the 12" screen independent of all interior lighting.
My Garmin GPS's white background is not as bright as Ford's, & I think the Garmin uses more colors (rivers, etc.).

4. An easy way (without getting into FORScan) to stop that annoying double horn honk if you leave the truck running when you walk away.

5. Update truck to automatically lock the doors (could be selectable option) when you walk away - provides extra security should you forget to lock your door & would prevent you from having to fish the Intelligent Access Key out of your pocket to lock OR after using the button on the door to lock, it's hit or miss AFA getting away from the truck in order for the running boards to not deploy before you put some distance (QUICKLY) from the truck.
I feel like the comedian that said when you break up with your girlfriend, if you hear a "click", time to run, zig zag, & tuck & roll.
I feel like that's what's required to get away from the truck after locking it in order to keep the running boards from deploying again.

6. Do SOMETHING about lane keeping assist annoying the heck out of you to KEEP HANDS ON STEERING WHEEL!
As stated in an earlier thread, the system is not really looking for your hands on the wheel - it's looking for steering inputs.
Lane Keeping Assist would be nice for a break on long, boring roads, where I usually drive with my left arm propped on the door with just a light touch on the steering wheel with one hand. I have to keep bumping the steering wheel every so often in order to prevent or dismiss the hands on wheel warning. I'm putting more input into the wheel to stop the warning than I am when actually driving, which kinda renders the system useless to me as now set up.

7. Too late for us 2021 owners, but the buttons on the overhead display need to be tilted slightly downward to allow better identification.

8. I wouldn't mind having the graduated tint at the top of the windshield - I'm having to use my sun visors more than I'd like - having the top of the windshield would eliminate some of the glare / brightness on sunny days so one would not have to use the sun visor.

Make the power running boards less noisy. I thought my old AMP ones were loud, lol.

I don't think it makes sense to ask Ford to fix missing features in Android Auto. While Ford has AA and CarPlay integration in the head unit, they aren't in charge of development for those systems. They can only use the SDK hooks that Google or Apple make available. Like Ford obviously put some thought into it with this gen because if you aren't on the CarPlay screen, but get a Notification in iOS, it auto switches to CarPlay to let you see you got a notification, which is awesome. But Ford can't do anything about what happens inside CarPlay, like when I get a phone call. Same thing with AA. So that is more a complaint to take to Google, not Ford (I assume, I don't know all the options available to Ford as far as things they can ask AA to do, would need to talk to someone familiar with AA integration development).

I don't think the double honk will ever be a user option. The idea is not letting you leave the truck running in a garage and walking away. Since it's a safety issue that SOMEONE will sue Ford for after a death from car fumes, Ford will keep it right where it is. I am not saying that as a supporter of it, I turn it off with Forscan, just indicating that I would be shocked it if went away.

Agree completely on the lane keeping. We just did a road trip this weekend, and my left hand was actually sore from constantly pushing on the wheel to keep it from dinging. I eventually figured out a comfortable way to keep it happy, but it seems so dumb. Other vehicles, I think Tesla, have pressure sensors built all around the wheel, which seems waaayyyy smarter, but probably costs an extra dollar over using the already existing motion sensors in the steering system. It just needs significant improvement. My one hope is that when Blue Cruise launches, I won't need to keep my hand on the wheel anyway which will help on the longer drives, as long as I am on a mapped highway, which looks likely for the most part.

The walking away and locking the truck and having the power board re-deploy is dumb, that's such a simple thing. I expect they will fix it with an OTA update.

I don't agree with the speed change should be more gradual. I guess at least assuming it stays like it is and starts the deceleration at the speed limit sign. Ford doesn't want to be getting complaints of speeding tickets because the truck takes a couple hundred feet to slow to the new speed and a cop nabs them, as I have seen plenty of speed traps in areas where you go from 55 to 35. I assume the truck has trouble reading the signs at certain distances so they can't have it start slowing earlier, which is what I would prefer. It can be a bit jarring of a slow down, I agree, but since I am watching the road I know to expect it.

Anyway, for me the only items on my list so far would be:
1. The power running boards deploying after you lock it if too close to the truck, as you noted.
2. The "keep your hands on the wheel" not being remotely accurate, as you noted.
3. New one: You can go to the Eco Coach screen to see how much you can get on the accelerator to keep in EV mode, and how to brake to maximize regen. But it's just a tiny bar at the bottom of the screen when in that mode, the rest of the user display area is empty. I want an option for that bar to always be there. It makes no sense to me that they made it use so little screen real-estate, yet I can't have it up when on another screen, like "Current Trip". It would still fit below the info on that screen.

I understand that - figured they might have some way to use Ford's system in conjunction with Android Auto?

I'm mired in details - hard to get a view from 30,000 ft. to find out exactly what all the competing systems can do, then narrow it down to the system I want to use.

After I play with Android Auto / Google more, I may find making phone calls using it is easier than Ford's system, but I wonder how Android Auto / Google will handle incoming calls that require you to hit 1 to accept.

For all I know, Android Auto may handle incoming calls that require me to hit 1, but on the only incoming call I've had so far, I didn't see anything.

Guess I'll have to carry my cordless house phone to the truck & make a few calls to my cell phone to see what's what.

Make LED lights standard on all trims. LED headlights at least. Yeah it will raise the price but it’s something people would gladly pay for. You can keep halogen turn signals and tail lights in lower trims to entice people to upgrade to higher trims.

It doesn't have to be a honk.

Our honda with push button start would just do a little dingdingding chime sound in that situation, not HONKHONK in your and everyone else's ear-hole. Would be nice if they made it something less stupidly annoying.

Oh for sure, I have heard the "chirp chirp" from other vehicles. They need to just carry over the speaker they are obviously installing on the PowerBoost trucks to do the backup noise and forward low speed warning noise, and make it do literally anything else. Especially if the intent is to warn when you leave it running in the garage, it doesn't need to be nearly that loud.

Speaking of ford double honk complaints.

Recently drove to pick something up, got out, left vehicle running, left the driver's door wide open, picked up the item, put it in through the passenger door onto the floorboard, and when I closed the passenger door HONKHONK. Like, the driver's door is wide open still. Come on
