Are you talking about the diff rusting? Idk. Looks like the truck has been driven. Judging by the mud slung up under there. I live in Wisconsin. Work in MN. My garage floor is covered in salt. From snow melting off my truck all year. My 21 has 11k miles. No where near the rust in the pic you posted
so this truck is new (the rusty picture above). Hasnt been driven much… I’m guessing except for test drives. Too thin of paint or was missed totally? Why would a lot vehicle look so much worse than yours that had been driven 11k miles up north, I live in Va.

The reason the rear axle assembly has had so much concern is because the supply of the assembly has been left outdoors. And or not treated. It's nothing more than -your axle was left outside with everybody elses and it rusted before it was installed. There was a period of time Ford started to paint over the rust because there was a national news headline of the 'rusty differentials'. Maybe it was not national but it has been on the news.
If you've ever noticed, the axle assemblies are loaded onto pallets and stacked in the stock yard until it's time to be built.
There has been speculation that the axles were left outdoors during shop closures due to covid and supply problems.

I agree, the rust on yours looks a bit extreme, but you are far from being the first or only person with this observation.
Six months ago, people reading the thread got tired of it and just went out and painted it themselves. Those who are capable I mean. I understand not everybody is capable of such a thing, but they self-remedied the rust situation.

Don't take it personally -this thread is not unlink most other threads. We veer off topic and make a mountain from a rusty molehill. Then it escalates by being disrespectful, etc.
It only takes one person to be the bigger/better person and move on, ignoring the comments they do not agree with. If a person doesn't agree chocolate is far from the best ice cream, they don't need to tell me I'm stupid, or I don't need to tell them they are the stupid one based on a response.

At this point, the thread can't die because there are what, 3 separate subjects being argued now?

How does it compare to yours? You said yours was in for service and this was on the lot right?

Kidding, yeah it's been a problem beginning on the 2020 models I think.
Anybody that's been here longer than a week had been through this type of thread countless times. haha
Many of the threads we've seen haven't been as enthusiastic as yours though. At least now you know you aren't alone, and sadly you don't get the aware for first recognition. teehee

wait, I thought this was only surface rust and wouldn’t cause issues down the road?

His truck is a 2009 so it's 15 years old it's not a 2021!! Not to mention it's his 1st post so can you believe him? Even if his truck was painted underneath in 2009 and looked good but not painted again i'm sure it would still be rusty underneath it's 15 years old!!
