Buyers beware when getting a new F-150
. RUST!
I was at the dealer today today getting my screen replaced and they did an undercarriage coating for free because of the rust. Mine still has a lot on it but there was a brand new 2022 lariat with w 68k sticker that looked like this
.
Is this really ok??? How does ford think this is okay to ship something like this and how is the dealer okay with putting this on the lot??
***correction, this is a new 2021 not 2022 that was on the lot.

has left the building
That's odd, you must have had a truck on hold sitting on the coast of the Southern Unites states to have a brand new truck with rust on the diff.
Kidding, yeah it's been a problem beginning on the 2020 models I think.
Anybody that's been here longer than a week had been through this type of thread countless times. haha
Many of the threads we've seen haven't been as enthusiastic as yours though. At least now you know you aren't alone, and sadly you don't get the aware for first recognition. teehee

Shacker
Looking at the picture, that truck has been driven, probably on some gravel/sandy roads. Notice it's rusting towards the front of the truck, paint missing, and what looks like dried water spots on rest of the truck. Definitely not a new off the line truck. The axle housing and pumpkin are made of cast iron which will begin to rust overnight in a humid area and then add salt to it, it will begin to rust within hours. It does look ugly, but it's not gonna hurt anything. I would venture to say most manufacturers use the same cheap paint on the bottom of vehicles. Por-15 will take care of the rust if one desires, but it's pricey.
Edit: I had to go and look at my truck with 500 miles on it and covered in salt. Sure enough, the cast iron parts are rusty, but the dif cover doesn't seem to be rusting ... yet. I wonder if the dif housig is even painted when installed because every inch has rust on it.
