Blue cruise difference between years
I’m looking at a ‘21 Lariat with the active prep 2.0 package. Is there a difference with blue cruise in the ‘21 models vs the newer trucks? I’m looking to upgrade in to a newer model from my 2013 but don’t want to
spend $70k.

Currently the 21 through 23 are still using the first version of BlueCruise. The 24 has the newer version from the factory. If the earlier trucks are fully updated they are capable of running the new features but Ford has not pushed an update to activate them, There are some who have used forscan to activate the new version on the older trucks. The thought is Ford will eventual send an OTA update but they have had a lot of issues with those and we don't know how long that may take.
Its a pretty big improvement over the first release. It has lain biasing which instead of staying center on the lane will bias to one side or the other when passing traffic. Assisted lane change, you activate the turn signal and it changes lanes. Predictive speed which will slow down for some curves and doesn't run up behind slower vehicles as quickly. The hands on mode on secondary roads is also much better.
If you have the VIN there is a thread on the other site where Rugedraw can tell you how far behind the truck is if you PM him the VIN.

And one regarding updating yourself with FDRS and a mongoose adapter.

There is also a tread on that site for a couple of loaner mongoose adapters which is the expensive part of the process. They run about $575. A two day FDRS license is $50

Its software only. The updates have been slowly coming out OTA. Some of us invested in a Mongoose adapter and get a FDRS license to install all the updates ourself. If your buying from a dealer include them running the updates in the deal. There were some early 21's that got stuck and quit updating, these can be a pain to get back on track.

Specifically, you will need the CCM, SCCM, CMR, PSCM and IPMA updated to the latest version. Of these, the IPMA/PSCM can only be updated with FDRS since the OTA for those is not being pushed out to our trucks.
