Default bed lights

On my previous f150 2005 I installed led bed lights, for power I just ran a wire straight to battery worked great. Any reason I can't do same thing with my 2024? I know it has a lot more battery dependent stuff, and I don't want to mess anything up, but any reason to not do this?
Thanks.

Should be good, I did that on mine for a powered sub with no issues. I went to a switched source for my bed lights so I wouldn't get side tracked and leave them on, but if you use them a lot that could be a pain. Jim

I’m not even sure you have to run all the way to the battery. You have 12V right under the bed…and I think I’m going to help my amigo with his Ram that is missing bed lights as such:

Not sure on the Ram, I used the 7 pin for battery on mine but it's only hot when the ignition is on which I was ok with. If he uses the lights often that might not be ideal. Jim
Edit: should go without saying but make sure you seal things up really well if you go into the 7 pin wiring so you don't cause a corrosion issue later!

Thanks for the replies everybody, I would rather tap in to power under bed if possible, but i would like to find a constant power source, would like to be able to use lights with ignition off. what would be the best source?

Have you checked to see if the connectors are already under the back end of the truck on the wiring harness? If they are, you can buy the lights and the wiring harness for the switch and the lights from the dealer. I had to replace the harness for the tail lights since mine didn't have the connectors, but once I did that and made the changes in FORScan, everything is working great!!! I'll see if I can find a picture of the connectors so you can see if they are already there.

Depending on the options your truck has, this is doable as I just finished doing it on my truck about 3 weeks ago. If you want more info, message me and I'll be happy to talk with you about it. Total parts price with the main harness, bed light harnesses, lights and switch with shipping was just over $300.

I also bought three factory harness, switch, and lights for my truck. It only took a few minutes to install. Hardest part was getting the factory blanks out where the lights go.

I paid $160 for all the parts, but this was back in December 2023 so they may be higher now.

I found out (after the fact) that if you remove the tail lights, it's easy to get the blanks out of the holes in the bed and put the lights in. You almost have to do that if you need to pull something back out so you don't mess up the lights.

Prices have gone up a bit for the parts. I did mine in March of 2025 and the prices reflect that. I got all my parts from Fairway Ford. They had the cheapest price on everything and shipping wasn't too bad.

I don't believe there is a constant source at the rear, you'll have to repeat what you did with your 05 or maybe tap on the fuse panel inside cab and run back from there. Jim
