Looking to get the bed extender for my 2021 XLT. I had the solid one piece one that you would rotate in/out on my 2007. I see there is a 2-piece one now also. My only concern with that is if you need to remove it, you need tools to remove the center pin. Does anyone know how the 1-piece one mounts. My previous just pivoted on the nadar looking pins on each side.

Here is the two piece on my 18 Lariat. You only need 40 or 50 Torx wrench ( not remembering which size )to remove both sections. Nothing else required. It will fit a 21 except no pin hole on the tailgate for the centre pin; not sure it it’s the same on all tailgates, but it can be drilled out to accommodate the pin if required. It’s marked on the tailgate where to drill

I just installed the one piece. Got it from Ford with my points. It is an AMP research product with Ford stamped in the front. Installs in about 30 minutes and comes back off just by pointing straight up and lifting out.
Two screws hold the tail light in. You remove those to have access to be able to tighten nut on bolt that holds the extender bracket on. Install bracket with 3 bolts, put light back in, do same to other side, and you are done. Put the extender together with provided hardware and put it in the truck.

Reason: Spelling
Not unless you install the pop rivets that come with the extender to help hold the actual extender together better. I did not install. Seems plenty sturdy with just the brackets that came with it. That of course would be drilling into the extender. There is no drilling into the truck. Everything fits in existing 3 holes at the end of the bed closest to tailgate.
Doesn’t the plastic one simply unlatch in the middle and you can fold it tightly against the bed sides? My 2020 does and takes up little room when stored that way. No need to remove it completely.
I have the split plastic extender from my '11 that I used on my '18 and now installed on my '21. I have the "special" tailgate plate on my '21 without the existing hole to use the center pin. It secures nicely though when pinned in on the side pillars.

If you care to drill a hole for the pin on the tailgate, this should be where the hole is located under the plastic.
