BAKFlip Issue
about 6 months ago I bought a new Bakflip mx4 from real truck. I’ve had this issue where this one pull-release keeps falling off the center panel. I’ve tried screwing it back in, but does not stay. Any idea to resolve this that doesn’t necessarily involve glue?
When I bought my used 2021 Platinum it had one already on the truck. One of mine had a broken housing and I tried to put it back together since when I pulled the release it would fall into pieces. I finally used a heavy dose of clear Gorilla Glue and let it setup for a couple days just to make sure it was dry and cured. I'm always using the cover so I needed it to work and it has now for almost a year without falling apart. I was unaware to a warranty lasting that long but I thought it wouldn't be honored since I'm not the original buyer. The cover is great.
i put a mk4 or mx4, whatever it is on my 24 a few weeks ago, that POS leaked like a pasta strainer,
called them, they asked if the drains were installed correctly, they were, and this and that, reset it, its not installed correctly, went to a "certified dealer/installation" place on a repair order, they went over it and said nothing wrong with install.
called them back, they wanted me to BUY a $75 "drain upgrade" kit, i laughed while stating "if you ****ing clowns think im giving you another $75 bucks after plunking down nearly $1300 for this thing, you need to lay off the dope you are smoking!!"
like WTF? returned that thing, bought another tyger soft roll up, just had torential rains on the east coast, not a drop in the bed, and i can deal with a little water, the bakflip had a waterfall at the tailgate, i keep a soft tool bag right at the tailgate and it was soaked through. im still a little salty about this since i always wanted one, could never justify the price point, had some extra cash laying around since i got a killer deal on the truck, got as a leftover with 4,000 miles on it for $38,000, and was just throughly disappointed. loved the way it looked but i dont need pretty, i need functionality.

I wanted to share my experience with a newly purchased BAKFlip MX4 (Gen 3). I purchased a brand new 2024 F150 XLT in May of this year. It's all factory - all I have done is put gas in it. As most of us on here, I really struggled with the right cover for me and I really struggled with the costs. As you research all the options and different manufacturers - there are as many positive reviews as there are negative reviews for EVERY SINGLE cover I researched. After 4 months I decided to just spend the money and buy the most popular I could find online. I could not possible be more disappointed in a company in my life. I purchased from RealTruck (which as been good to deal with) and reached out to them due to streams of water coming into my truck bed while it is sitting in my driveway. I have adjusted this cover forward and backward to see if I could just lessen the amount of water literally streaming in from the corners while just sitting in my driveway during normal heavy rain (no hurricane, no tornado, no thunderstorm warnings, no wind advisories, etc.). RealTruck passed my information over to BAK. BAK asked for several pictures and video which I gladly provided in hopes that this was just a defective topper that slipped through quality control. Nope - see below the response I received from BAK. RealTruck has offered to take the cover back but of course, I have already discarded all of the packaging so no real good way of packaging it back up. RealTruck has provided my a shipping label and agreed to refund my money as long as it gets returned in good shape. Like I said RealTruck has offered what any other company would offer in a similar situation. BAK on the other had is in my opinion an extremely bad company to deal with. I will never buy another BAK product and I will be sharing this story with everyone I know that is considering their products.
Thank you for the inquiry. For the leaks at the cab corners, we recommend applying our bulk head seal and a barrier of RTV silicon between the side bed cap and bulk head seal. The vehicles side bed caps are elevated over the bulk head cap and when it rains water will build up at the corners and flow into the bed. The RTV silicon will help stop the water flow and make the bed more watertight at the cab. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
