So, whether it is actually unlocking or not......
To just cut to the chase, so to speak... Is there ANY WAY of keeping the truck from doing ANY OF IT? I'd really just like to manually activate all that by manually "clicking" my key fob.

I most definitely appreciate all replies. Thank yall!!
Is the rear door still locked if you try to open it before the front door?

I just did a test on it and I am very much incorrect about the door unlocking upon approach. I apologize for that.

But, can anyone advise me on how to eliminate Any/All of it from happening when I approach the truck? I literally just want to click my key fob, just like I do with my 2015 F150 XLT, that I still also own. Life is so much simpler with the 2015, as it does not have all the added electronic features of this new one. LOL

Again, THANK YOU for the replies.

I think you can disable the lights and such in settings -> vehicle settings -> lighting -> welcome lighting and turning that off.

No joke. It really does that. Unlocks the drivers door. Maybe the passenger front, but definitely the drivers. I'd as soon the truck does nothing until I manually hit the key fob button myself.

My salesman even told me it would. It was cool, at first. Now, it's IRRITATING. Thanks for any replies. I do appreciate it.

  • Mine does the same thing! Ford dismisses it as if I’m the one unlocking? I thought maybe that may have been the case but it has happened waaay too often.

Walk away locking and approach unlocking was added as a feature to 2024+ plus trucks. 2021-2023 trucks do not unluck automatically when you get close. If you truck is a 2024+, you cn turn that feature off in your touchscreen settings.

Well mines a 2021 and it WILL randomly unlock on its own without touching the handle.

Then you have a unicorn. The RFA (remote function actuator) module that is required for this to work was not put into F150's until the 2024 model year, so you don't have the hardware for it to work. Approach Detection will unfold the mirrors, turn on the exterior lights and deploy the running boards (if it has deployable running boards), but it won't unlock the door until you grab the driver door handle.

Test it. Get close enough so that the mirrors unfold and lights come on. Once that happens, leave the key behind and go to the truck and try to open the door without the key being in your hand or in your pocket.

Before you grab the handle, just look at the door lock button through the window. Is it still in the down and locked position? Does it pop up when you grab the handle?

Good answer! Mine's been disabled since I bought the truck but it still clicks when I approach so the sensors and computer are still active (part of security system?); but nothing comes on (and doors stay locked).
