Default 5.0 and E85

Anyone use it? try it? Does it make a big difference in terms of performance? Is it best to wait until the break in miles are done?

E85 is great, you can tell a difference for sure. But i will state that filling the entire tank of E85 is worthless, the truck cant "use" all of the octane so when filling up i normally put 10-12 gallons of E85 and top the tank off with 93. This also helps with your MPGs not dropping as much because E85 takes roughly 30% more fuel to make the same boom which is why MPGs drop so much when running E85.

Coyote loves E85 stock or especially tuned which is beastmode for a n/a block. But gas mileage sucks donkey ballz on straight E85 and it's not cheap anymore, use to be a little less than regular here, now it's not far off of premium. 93 for me (2019 and tuned) and excellent gas mileage. Pay 3.09 at Costco for 93, E85 elsewhere is like 2.70-2.90, and huge drop in mileage city or highway.

I know the State Troopers up here use it in their Explorers. Minnesota subsidizes the crap out of it (corn country), but I haven't checked the price. I've had my 07 (5.4 3v FlexFuel) for 10 years, but have never tried a tank. Mostly because my 5.4 purrs like a kitten, and I'm afraid to try giving the old girl some new food. I'm not worried about mileage as I drive a work vehicle M-F.

Do you run hotter with it? Does it keep as long as regular gas, or is fresher better? Not being a daily driver and having a 36 gallon tank, it's likely to be in there a while. Even with the 25(?)gallon tank in my 07, I maybe hit a gas station once a month on average.

I've used it the last two fill ups and yes there is a noticeable power increase. I've been getting 15.7 mpg in and around town.

Non-ethanol and you will get the best gas mileage. The engine seems more responsive too.

I run E-85 all the time, great power.
There is a mileage loss, but did I mention the great power ?
I bought a truck to do truck things and I like power.
I guess if I had to commute with the truck it might make a difference.
I lose about 4-5 mpg between E-85 and regular.

Did Ford stop putting the Flexfuel badge on the trucks that can handle E85? my truck can use E85 but it doesn't have the badge

A mileage test a few years ago in California, so current pricing is the biggest factor for comparison. I have never heard of any advantages to running Ethanol other than power. Many years ago, it was cheap enough to offset the drop in fuel mileage, but I doubt it is the case now.

This. I am not a fan of putting ethanol into my gas tanks, truck, car, or otherwise. Probably not an issue with as quickly as most people go through gas, but anything that attracts moisture makes me nervous. (In this case I assume the quoted poster meant Regular ethanol gas? Not real gas. I do put regular ethanol into my vehicles but only because putting real gas in becomes expensive.)
