I was thinking about adding a down pipe setup so I contacted the guys at MPT to see what kind of power gains they have seen. They did not recommend that purchase as they have not seen any significant power gains. I trust the experts but I was wondering if any of you guys have installed a downpipe and what your thoughts were?
I am sure this is going to get me flamed so I have the fire retardant suit on but why did you start 2 identical threads?
If the experts that you trust say don't waste your money when they sell the parts you are asking about I'd take that as a pretty good answer.

Knowing what others have done is helpful. Plus, DurantECOBOAST16 didn't show any hard evidence (dyno chart for example), so again I was leaning on the knowledge of other's experience.
my post was directed at the OP since he started 2 identical threads. But I still think if a vendor that makes money selling parts says you don't need it then that holds much more water then someone's butt dyno. Vendors who are honest enough to say you don't need to spend money are very rare in my experience.

When I posted the thread I had a loading issue and it posted twice. I do trust the guys at MPT for sure but I felt that their policy on emissions made them a little biased. They will not write a tune that turns off a CHE light for any reason. I also don’t know what they consider to be “ significant power”. I would be willing to pay $800 for something that gives me a little more sound and an extra 25 hp. If I purchased the downpipe the total investment in performance would be $2700 and I’d get roughly 125rwhp, which I feel is totally worth it IMO.

downpipes, even with high flow cats, could produce power when coupled with a 3" exhaust. Especially when tuned for the mods. A generic canned tune is not going to be tuned for additional mods so may not take advantage of the additional flow.
Doing downpipes with the stock 2.5" mid-pipe size isn't going to do much.
