cheap laptops and datalogging
I'm looking at picking up a cheap refurbished laptop for logging purposes, as I don't want to use my every day unit to haul back and forth to the track. Now I'll let everyone know up front that I don't know much about computers and operating systems. Specifically I'm considering a refurbished unit that has the google chrome operating system, and I have no idea if it's a compatible unit to work with the sct livelink software or the sct x4 tuner I use.
The other thing is that I installed a laptop mount in my truck, and want a lighter lap top sitting on top of the mount that won't be as effected as much by the sudden acceleration encountered at the strip...so a lightweight, cheap laptop that won't be used for anything else is what I'm hunting for...something that would yield quality datalogs.

I use one of these cheap Nuvision ones I got on sale during black friday. You can find them in the $100-200 range and will be capable of handling all of your dedicated truck tuning needs (forscan, datalogging, etc.)
well you have the other thread, but I would consider going as a spectator. Taking the hoopty though is a lot more involved as it would require tire and wheel swapping and hauling jacks and tools and ice chests and whatever else i would need (and i have that reservoir in the back). And then of course i wouldn't be happy if I blew the motor and had to pay transportation costs to get the truck back home.
I don't have an enclosed trailer (or a trailer at all as far as that goes) so a trip there to run the RCSB would be pretty difficult.

You could also go on CL and pick up a used thinkpad or similar for a couple hundred bucks. A T - series would work great and you could probably get one with solid specs, and being a Thinkpad, they are built to last.
I am still using my 10 year old Thinkpad T500 for tuning my Liberty and running HPTuners. It works fine. If you bought something 3-4 years old(a T450 or 460) it would be pretty quick.

Yes I realize I already have a laptop, however the resolution with this one is just marginal(for datalogging), aside from the fact that it's kind of clunky and heavy being a 15" screen. This one is several years old and has only the I5 processor (I think that's what it is)
