First spray the clip and u-joint real good with something like WD-40. If you are replacing the u-joints try hammering on the cap of the u-joint on one of the sides with the broken clip(don't do if you want to try and save th u-joint). It might move enough to give you some clearence between the cap and clip and it would take any pressure off of the clip. Take your hammer and punch and try hitting one of the ends of the clip. If you can get it to break free and at least slide around in the groove then it will come out.

Have you tried taking a chisel, knocking a goove into the end of the clip, then angling the chisel so that when you hit it your driving the chisel(and hopefully the clip) out of the groove? I'll keep thinking.

Ask them nicely not to spin, then take two screw drivers and hit up each side of the clip.

You need a sharper flat head and than attack it from the side near the end and pry them down. If you think this part sucks wait till you try an knock the caps out. If you have a bench vise and a couple of sockets it will be easy.
