Question Problems Starting

This afternoon I went to start my truck and when I went to turn it over the alarm just started blaring. I tried a couple more times only to get the same result. This is the third time this is happened to me, so I wanted to see what you guys thought. The battery isn't dead because the radio, lights, A/C, and door locks all still work, and my voltage gage reads in the middle of a quarter and a half. The last time it happened I jumped it and it started right up, but what could be causing the problem? I have a relatively new Optima Yellow Top so I don't think it's the battery. Any ideas?

SO you cant dis arm the alarm with the fob and then it sounds when you try and start it? Does the theft light flash rapidly ?

Doesnt sounds like your problem but the positve cables rot off the starter a lot.

I can disarm the alarm with the fob, just have to hit unlock twice and it stops, and yes the theft light flashes rapidly.
I thought it could be starter, definitely something to look into.

OK if the theft light is flashing you have prob have a pats issue. Try a different key if you have one. It is most likely a pats transponder that goes around the ignition lock cylinder. It charges and reads the chip in the key for start up. Do you have a code reader or have access to one ?

But if it was a PATS issue that wouldn't explain it starting up with a jump...

No but starting with a jump wouldnt explain the rapidly flashing theft light. Need to see what is has for codes, see if it has any like a p1600 p1602,2 ect those would be pats issues or theft detected.
Did it start today with a jump ?

I didn't try, I didn't really need to move it, just would've made a shorter trip to carry some stuff. The last time this happened it did, so i'm assuming it will. I'm up at College so it only moves once a week or so, but I don't think it sits long enough for that to be a problem, and it hasn't been crazy cold either... I'll check on Tuesday and see if it throws codes.

Maybe a ground issue? When it's jumped off another battery, it could be using the other (maybe better) ground. Just a thought.

Yeah it started on Tuesday with a jump, drove it all the way back to Texas with no problems...
