Default Oxygen sensor

I have a 2001 F 150 w/ a 5.4L engine. Check engine light code said O2 sensor, Bank 1, sensor 2. Where is this located. I have been told it was upstream and told downstream. I have 2 up and 2 down. Anyone know how they are designated?

Bank 1 is passenger side in Fords. Bank 2 is driver side.
Sensor 1 before catalytic converter. Sensor 2 its after the catalytic converter

so... i concur with dik4.

if you are in doubt, you can always disconnect the sensor and see if you get a new dtc. if so, you got the wrong one.

I have a 1997 F-150 and suspect the o2 sensor. I have 156K and think they are the originals. Should I change the one that is identified as defective or change them all out? Thanks all.

Hello, I just wanted to search this topic as my friend in No. New York State just had to remove his "Y" pipe to get his left (driver's side) upstream sensor out. 1997 F-150 4.6L. Even with the "Y" pipe out the sensor could not be turned. It broke and they chased the hole to install a replacement.

I suggested that he change both since the darn Y pipe was out and he went cheapskate on me. He gave me the old, "If it ain't broke..." line.

All is well now. Kira
