Default Locking differential error message

Hey all, now that cold weather has hit my truck keeps throwing this error message while driving. It's making me nervous that my truck is trying to shift into 4x4. Anyone ever experienced this issue? It does it while I'm driving and tends to only do it when the weather is colder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have the differential locking switch turned on. It is on the dash just left of the radio volume ****. It should not be ON unless you are stuck, etc. If you try driving the truck over 20mph, you will get this message. It has nothing to do with 4x4.

If you turn it on and try making a u-turn, so will see that the rear tires are LOCKED and will fight you. There is zero slip, so it acts like a spool.

I don't think I have it on. Please excuse my ignorance if I do, but wouldn't it be on consistently if it was on? I just took these two pics of my switch.

Better to have someone with a 4x4 help you. You can always have it on, the computer will just keep shutting it off at speeds over 20mph and pop up the message. I assume it would then turn back on once you get below 20mph. Again, I am not familiar with that specific switch (my 4x2 is just ON/OFF), but it looks like you should push it in to shut it off. If you do that does the message go away? Having it on all the time is not a good idea as it is very hard on tires, axles, etc.

I keep it pushed in at all times. The message comes on at random times - not consistent at all, and cold weather seems to be the only common theme. And I never touch the switch. If it comes on, I'll pull it out and push it back in occasionally.

It seems like the truck thinks it engaged when it’s not. Why is the question?

I want to know how to fix it and make sure my truck doesn’t throw itself into 4 wheel drive.

Haven't thought about that. If you’ve sold a few, you wouldn’t happen to know the part # would you? If so, I’ll order one from you if possible
