Default Increase eco boost reliability

Hey all,

Wondering if there are some things I can do to increase the reliability and durability of my ecoboost? besides the usual oil and fluid changes, are there any upgrades to do or things to modify to increase these things? Want this thing to run and stay solid.

Thanks for any input.

Well you bought a sad inherently flawed engine. Your best bet is to get rid of it and get a V8. But if you are in the same boat as I and are stuck with a lemon ecoboost due to financial reasons this is what I have been doing. Oil change every 5000 miles with full synthetic oil, air filter every 15000 miles and spark plugs every 30000 miles. I also change the coolant every 5 years. Beyond that I have just been hoping and praying the inevitable ecoboost catastrophic failure doesnt happen for awhile since I can't really afford to deal with it.

you can get tuners it increase power. there are many to choose from for the ecoboost. in terms of reliability, just keep up with maintenance and don't abuse it

This post is hilarious.

Changes the oil at 5K
Air filter at 15K
Plugs at 30K
Coolant every 5 years

It would seem you have about 200K miles on a flawed engine. LMAO.

Ford's track record with turbo charged engines do not have a very reliable past at all. Thunderbird turbo coupes in the 80's Biggest POS that ever graced this planet.

Trading in the truck is not an option. I came from a 5.7 Hemi Ram which I always heard was a great engine. Now here I am with an Eco F150 and I have two camps. One saying its garbage, and the other saying its great, you just have to treat it right. Its not an abuse engine. So I was just looking for things to look out for. And tips or tricks anyone else has experienced to help this engine keep sailing smooth. I have 84k on my truck right now. All seems well for now and I want to keep it that way. Are they any items on this eco that "typically" are the weak point?

what year is yours? routine maintenance is the biggest thing

the early ones had some issues with CAC condensation (easily solved), spark plugs, timing chain stretching.

Mine is a 2012. Just had plugs changed. Is this year susceptible to the CAC and timing stretch?

You will find many threads on this forum about 5.0 vs Ecoboost. Yes, there have been issues with Ecoboost engines. Yes, there have been issues with 5.0 engines. The earlier EB’s had some problems with timing chain stretch. MOST have been taken care of by Ford either under Powertrain warranty or extended warranty.
I would NOT say they are prone to catastrophic failure as one member mentioned. I would NOT say it is a piece of junk engine. ANY machine CAN break down.
I own a ‘13 3.5 EB and yes, it has had the timing chains and related parts replaced due to noise upon cold soak start up. Aside from that, I’m very happy with the power and torque it delivers.
Dont let your plugs go 100k miles. Replace at 50k intervals with Motorcraft plugs ( only) gapped at .030.
Keep your fluids “fresh”
DO NOT run any additives in your fuel or oil.
DO run premium fuel.
Search the forum for “Intercooler Weep Hope” and DO IT.
