Fuel Filter
i had to take my truck in to get the 10000 mile imspection and the guy tried to tell me that i need to get the fuel filter replaced at 15000 does that sound right to anyone? it doesnt sound right to me
The book says 30K. My prepaid maintance plan doesn't cover it until 30K either. You really don't need to do it until then. I went ahead and did mine at 15K myself in my driveway. I just wanted to see how to do it and it's cheaper than an oil change if you do it youself. Motorcraft filter is around $8 at wally word. And a one time cost of around $10 more for the tool. I think your dealer is trying to suck your wallet dry. No where in my oem service guide book does it call for it any sooner than 30K.
You will need a 3/8 fuel line disconnect tool. I'll post a picture of it later when I get home. I just let my truck sit for 3 hours before I did it. There was no pressure in the line. I would not recommend doing it right after you had it running because you might be beathing in it. I put a bucket under the line to catch to fuel after I disconnected it, it just poured out of the line. In the Hanes manual it show great detail on how to disconnect the fuel line. It took me less than 10 mins.
Here is a picture of the complete kit of fuel line disconnect tools. They are sold individually.
In the left picture (inlet side of the fuel filter) it shows you using a screwdriver to gently lift the center tab to release the clip, do not take it out. Then you squeeze the outer part of the clip and push in the pull out. Then that side is off, let the fuel drain in a bucket. Sorry I don't have a picture of the other side I'll need to take one if you need it. But on that side it's where you'll need the tool. First the metal retainer clip will need to be removed. After that's done put the tool over the line and push into the connector. While doing that push filter into the line then pull out. That just helps separate the line from the filter. You don't need the tool to put the new one on. This picture is from the Haynes manual. It has picture of every type ford used on the trucks from what I can tell.

No, it's not hard to do at all. Yes, plan to do it at 30K. If you change your oil then you can do this. It in doubt get the book like I did. After you do it you'll never pay the dealer 50-75 to do it for you.
