Default clutch problem

I have a 2002 f150 4x4. I was on my way to work this morning and as soon as I pulled out of my driveway all of a sudden my clutch sunk in and I couldnt shift into any gears. When the trucks off I can put it into any gear I want. Im not sure if this has anything to do with the rear differential fluid being low or not but when I first purchased the truck the guy I bought it from said the rear differential has a small leak. If this is the problem how do I check if the fluid is low. Any help is appreciated thanks.

It would not be a problem with your differential, I would check your clutch line, master cylinder and slave cylinder if you can.

Agreed, problem is in clutch either mechanically or the hydraulic actuation is at fault. The clutch is not functioning, meaning its not disengaging the trans from the engines rotation.

2000 thru 2002 had secret hyd. clutch master cylinder problems that Ford couldn't figure out. The problem is the hose runs so close to the exhaust manifold that it actually melts on the inside. This causes either a quick release of the clutch or no clutch at all.
You need to check with your local Ford parts dealer there should be a TSB on this and a kit to wrap hose with insulation to prevent this from happening.
P.S. this also happened on Rangers with the 3.0 engine.

Hope this helps.

Just checked the TSB's couldn't find, Ford used to have service tips, anyone know how to access them. They weren't bulletins but tips. Really like Rangers help, brake fluid forms air if it gets to hot.

I discovered this when I had my 2001 Ranger. The dealer and i went around and around about the hyd failure of clutch operation. Service manager finally got involved and we found that there was a letter to the effect that hose was found to close to exhaust. They wrapped it with insulation kit they ordered.
Later on in the summer the cab temp in afternoons would effect the full operation of clutch...like early release problem.
When I had my MGB it would creep at light with clutch in. This clued me in to what was happening.
I went back to dealer they looked at me like I was crazy...but these damn hydraulic clutches will give you headaches because of temperature.
Ford never did fix the problem.... I got pissed and bought my 07 with automatic.
My old EB manaul linkage has never failed me no matter how bad I have smoked the clutch.

MY .05 worth

I had this happen to me awhile ago, and it was a mechanical part of the cutch that broke. not too sure what it's called but it's a pin with a round flat washer type head on it. the guy that fixed it actually just welded a flat washer on the end of the pin and put it back where it belongs and it's worked great ever since.(8 months) 1995 f150 300 6cyl. 2wd
