Default A/C Compressor Problem(I think)

So about two weeks ago, my serpentine belt broke. I noticed a little bit of smoke coming from where the A/C compressor was. The clutch looked burnt and the bearing on the pulley wasn't right. I swapped out both and along with the coil while I was at it. I put it together, shimmed the clutch. I vacuumed the system and when I try to put new 134a it won't take. I notice the clutch does about half a turn and stops, half a turn and stops. The compressor started shooting out the 134a i put in it and the I started noticing a smell like something was burning. I don't know if the smell is because the truck hasn't started up in about two weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank You

My only suggestion is to take the truck to a pro.

Trucks a 2007 and has 250k miles. Anywhere I take it my neighborhood will just tell me "new compressor" which will run anywhere from $1300-$1500. Not worth the money on a truck that old. Unfortunately I need to keep the truck for about another year. I really don't want to have to drive around South FLorida without A/C

Well then, go to a salvage yard, get a compressor for around $50 to $75, change it out, charge it up, and be on your cool way.

Probably damaged the front seal when the clutch overheated and locked up, or if the compressor grenaded internally, everything needs to be replaced/flushed.

By everything, you mean the whole compressor unit, including clutch, pulley and coil correct? Of course when I install, I know I have to vacuum it out to get the air out. Might as well change the o ring on the hi and low pressure line at the compressor too.

Look for a rebuilt compressor. I bought one for a Mercedes Benz for 175 bucks shipped.

A cheap fix might work but bear in mind a compressor failure usually contaminates the whole system with debris and burnt oil which foul the internal filters. A professional would replace the orifice tube and suction accumulator and do a complete system flush before installing a new compressor.

Good luck.
