If there is no indication of a braking problem, the parking brake may be sticking, the brake fluid is low or the fluid level float in the master cylinder is stuck which is very common..

The BRAKE light on my 2007 F150 came on about a year ago and I checked everything. Turned out to be a cracked solder joint in the instrument panel circuit board. There are posts on this forum with the specifics of how to fix the solder joint. My BRAKE light is still on as I have not gotten around to trying to resolder the cracked joint.

Just move the float some to free the fluid level float. I am adding just a little Dot 3 as well.

Thanks

Is the cracked solder joint in the instrument circuit board Obvious?

No, but if you turn the key on and gently pull on the upper left corner of the instrument cluster circuit board, in my case, it would go off and when you release the pressure it would come back on. Trim pieces need to be removed to get to the instrument cluster circuit board. There are posts and U-tube videos out on the web

Jimboy has a newer generation truck. His specific experience with an '07 probably doesn't apply to your older '00 as the instrument clusters are completely different.

BTW, does the ABS light come on for a few seconds when the truck is first started? Have to make sure it works.

Here is the list of possibilities from the factory service manual:
  • Circuitry.
  • Brake fluid level.
  • Parking brake switch.
  • Fluid level indicator switch
  • Instrument cluster.
  • Anti-lock brake control module (RABS only).

That should cover Every Possible Culprit.

Yep. That's the preface to the actual troubleshooting to give you an idea of what all is possible.
