Default atf?

what kind of atf are you using? im coming up time for a fluid change and was just wondering what the majority of you guys use. may last fill was Valvoline Mercon V. im thinking of going with one of the fancy oils this time like redline or royal purple. what do you think?

Default Strange But True:

Both my vehicles (AODE and 4R70W) are filled with Chrysler ATF+4, the highest quality ATF among the majors. The fluid is specifically designed to prevent clutch/band shudder and has a service life about 50% better than Mercon V with no compatibility issues.
I would not recommend using AFT+4 if your truck is under warranty, for obvious reasons.
If using a Chrysler fluid in your Ford makes you nervous, then go with Mercon V.
There are many fancy (and expensive) fluids out there that do a good job, but the advantages, in my opinion, don't justify the cost.

Mercon V was designed expressly for 4R70Ws. I would use nothing else.

Amsoil torque drive is what I use. It's the smoothest ATF I have experienced.

i kinda want to go the other way. i used to run type f in my gm trannies for more positive shifts but im not sure if that would be good for this one.

im thinking about redline d4 but i will probably end up using castrol merc v with lubeguard red additive

yes and my 04 explorer. probably in the next month. the explorer is going to get a tranny cooler and redline d4 or high heat, have not made up my mind yet. everyone knows about the problems with the 5r55s lol.
the explorer is actually due now and the f150 has a little while but i like to have a good plan of attack before i get started. still undecided but im leaning toward the castrol MV in the f150. it doesnt have any problems so why change it up

The hard part where I live is it's difficult to find name brand trans fluid on the self, so many retail store stock their store brand of fluid.....so if you can find a name brand like Castrol or Valvoline I'd run with it.......I've personally used Pennsoil fluid several times with no problems......good luck!
