Question 06 steering problem

hello i am still new here

i have a 06 f150 4x4 ex cab with 94k miles and this is the first real problem it has had
yesterday i started noticing the steering seemed a little diffrent when turning like 20mph and under and now when i turn the wheel 90* the wheel will be stiff for a seccond then normal then stiff again when i cut the wheel even more another 90* its very odd i have never had this happen before and when i let go of the wheel for it to spin back after the turn, the wheel will get stuck and not spin all the way back so the truck will go in compleat circles untill i turn it straingt again. its almost like its binding up
there is no added noise or grinding, and the fluid is perfect inbetween min and max and the tires have 35lbs each, also the truck does not pull any direction.
hopefully someone can help me out i'm stumped lol

Nick

Check the U-joint in the lower steering column shaft for binding, then check your tie rods and tie rod ends for damage, then check the steering column shaft boot and bearing at the firewall.

Default Big thanks

Because of this thread, you guys save me a lot of money. I had the same steering problem, so I went Ford garage here in Iceland and the told me that I need to change the steering rod and even the steering colum. But because of this site and this thread, just a litle lube and everything was perfect. So big thanks.

Smari.

Had the exact same problem with my 2004. You just need to lubricate the knuckles on the steering column. I did this 2 years ago and haven't had a problem since.

For those who used WD 40, it is thin as water and will soon drip or wear off. If it were me, I'd lube each of those joints with some kind of oil or grease that has some staying power.
