Default Dash Conversion

Doing a bit of customization -

Looking to put a 1991 dash into my 1995 - anyone done this before?

On initial pass looks doable, need to change out steering column, but other than that seems pretty straightforward. Oh, need to mention dumping computer and redoing wiring.

Appreciate insight.

Why would you want the older, crappier dash?

No, it doesn't fit, and there would be a lot more to it than just the steering column (which also doesn't fit) & wiring (which doesn't fit, either). If you really want to do this, just sell the newer truck & buy a flatnose. The '87 5.8L still used a carburetor, if that's what you want.

But carburetors suck.

Appreciate your perspective, Steve.

I realize there may be some fab work - doesn't concern me. Redoing wiring completely, dumping original harness and installing fuse block and simplified wiring, so no issue there.

Go for it, probably do a little plastic trimming I bet it slides right in .I drove a 96 Bronco on a expedition frame and the expedition dash in the Bronco it worked pretty good but I'm not one to ask cause I do stuff others think is dumb or can't work back in 1980 put a pinto wagon on a Broncos chassis had 38s on it so I'm into doing what say you can't,

"Some fab work" doesn't quite cover it. The firewalls are very different on the driver's side. The way the columns are attached is very different.

It's quicker, cheaper, safer, & easier to start with the closest thing you can get to what you want. If you want an '87-91 F-series, start with one.

This reminds me of my first build a 36 Ford Coupe. I wanted to put a 56 Chevy dash in it. I even bought the dash. I procrastinated long enough that I actually found a 36 at a car show and someone had cut down a 56 Chevy dashboard. I give them credit for doing it but it looked way out of place. Boy am I glad I didn’t do it. I still have my 36 and the 56 dash but in different places in the garage. But if your interested in the dash let me know. For the moment it’s garage art. Lol

Thanks for sharing your experience, Joe. Sometimes concept and execution are misaligned - but the journey can still be enjoyable. i believe that is an underlying factor in customization - the joy of creating something new!
