Late in the year when dealers are clearing out inventory you may find some that will offer incentives on top of X-plan. I don't know the inner workings at the dealer to know how they can do it but that's one way to beat x-plan alone. That's what I got. Or at least that's the story they told me..........I just nodded my head and took it. Just shy of 9K off MSRP.

Xplan is 0.4% below dealer invoice pricing, A plan is .85% below invoice and I believe D plan is ford decade employees only and something like 1.2% below invoice.

How can you find X plan pricing on line without a log in? I'm curious because I would consider that source dubious unless it's someone posting the actual dealer invoice. actual dealer invoices have all 3 prices listed somewhere near the bottom - if I recall correctly.

X,A or D plan still is eligible for any and all incentives and discounts applicable at the time of sale - no if or buts about it.

Dealers lie more often than not - if you are X plan eligible and have your number any dealer that won't show you the plain invoice for the car is lying to you and you should leave. I run into this in my area occasionally so there are dealers I won't even grace the door of.

case in point for my F150 I had already build and priced what I wanted on the Xplan log in website - not the basic Ford.com. From there the prices all start off different as are most of the option packages. It requires a plan number If I recall correctly. I had _____ in my hand before I even walked in the door.

Dealer one - picked out 2 trucks mentioned who I work for and my xplan number. I asked to see the price - they started off the conversation with will lease offer this and financing that etc. I stayed polite to the end and asked to see the xplan invoice price. they handed me a color page with their logo on it and more financing numbers still 3K higher than what ford's xplan website showed. They wouldn't even show me the vehicle invoice.

Dealer 2 - picked out 4 trucks mostly liked 2 of them though - all 4 optioned the same other than color and motor. Again mentioned the Xplan piece and sales guy got the floor manager over right then and he poked around a bit and printed me 2 invoices for the trucks we looked at. actual invoices are rather plain affairs that list the option packages, any add ons, and the base vehicle with it's vin number and build date. at the bottom he circled the Xplan price and said that's the starting point without incentives. Now they hemmed and hawed abit about incentives and if the 1000 dollar FMCF credit was still applicable and what not. BUT - when pressed the printed me out a final tally that had all incentives off the X plan price not invoice and not sticker with tax and title. My truck stickered for over 43 - I paid less than 37 - and I didn't have to complain once.

So yes Xplan is pretty awesome - oh the the percentages are a bit higher if you get a lincoln. like 0.6 vs the 0.4 - because the starting prices are higher.

I was able to get X-plan, which may not be the best deal, but it does make it tough for the dealer to screw you over. If I replace this one, I have considered a visit to Varsity Ford in Ann Arbor, (250 miles from me) to see how they deal. They keep a stock of around 250 f-150's. I can imagine they might sell under invoice.
Has anyone here ever dealt with Varsity Ford?
My experience with Varsity, and most of Michigan, is they will default to X-Plan and it is very difficult to get anything lower. Be sure to ask about dealer certificates which are $250 each and they may use up to four per deal, if available.

I've been on the A/Z plans for close to 30 years. It's nice walking in, telling the dealer that and get a price, no muss, no fuss, I hate negotiating/arguing with anyone.
Back when I started buying like that, I'll never forget how I was told by certain ones, that I still paid more than they could get it for, that was before I adopted the attitude, money talks, BS walks. Now a days I couldn't care less about what deal someone else got. Haha, the older you get, the less you GAF.

Some incorrect statements here unfortunately.

A and Z are identical in calculation. Invoice - Holdback - Advertising Fee + $275 program fee.

D-Plan is dealer emplyeee and families. It is A-Plan plus $100.

X-Plan is Invoice - 0.4% + $275 program fee

You.CANNOT use all incentives with any plan. For example, you cannot use Private Cash with A, Z or D, only X.

Ford's Smart Vincent system will show all of the above for any vehicle plus all eligible incentives.

Do your homework and you'll beat any "plan". There is virtually unlimited info online to help you figure out how to negotiate well below invoice.

Did it change recently - as my understanding was Xplan was for tier one suppliers to use, D plan was for employees of Ford (and whomever else they give it to) and A plan was for decade employees and the like. A plan was always the lowest price of the set, D was slightly more, and X plan was higher still

I've heard of decade employees getting cars for insane prices. Assuming there is a modicum of accuracy with truecar reporting index - it would appear nobody buys a ford product around here cheaper than what Xplan and incentives can get you. NEW - now program or used cars is a different thing. it might vary some area to area and I suspect in places like Michigan you have a large group of people that buy via A plan or whatever that would skew the numbers.

I did X plan. It's a good way to go if your time is valuable to you. If you have huge time and like the challenge of negotiating to the last penny you can beat it, but to me the time investment was just not worth it.

It is also dependent on the demand for what you are buying. X plan is not impacted by dealer motivation while negotiating most certainly is. I wanted an exact combination and the ONLY way to get it was to special order, so dealers not too motivated. If you are an off the lot buyer then you may have greater opportunity to find a motivated dealer.
