Default Winter fuel

Not pretending to be an expert on the topic, but I have seen a dramatic drop in my fuel range on fill ups. I have a 136 litre tank and would get 1200-1300km/fill up and my DTE would always be 999km for the first few hundred km's. Now I fill up and I get 970-980km on DTE. Noticed the same thing on my Focus ST, but not that dramatic. I have just 13,000km on the truck. Any opinions/feedback?

Totally in line with what colder temps and winter gas does.

Just be happy that you don't have winter gas year round like here in Washington state.

There is one place locally that claims to sell pure gas, but it is so expensive that it is not worth the cost and although i have tried it, I never noticed any increase in mpg.

10% ethanol year round.

Pure Gas a should yield a noticeable MPG improvement. Here are the Washington stations:

There are summer and winter blends of the 10% ethanol... As there are probably summer and winter blends of pure gas. There is more stuff added to gas than just the ethanol now days..

Rick, thanks for that link. I am familiar with it. Not one of those locations are remotely close to me unfortunately.

Winter gasoline in usa is shorter chain hydrocarbon blend along with more butane. Its a higher vapor pressure blend and lower btu content per gallon. Its cheaper to make for refineries, and is allowed by epa since its colder outside and less evaporates than in summertime.

Summer blend is longer chain hydrocarbon, lower vapor pressure, higher btu/gal, and more costly to make.

Ethanol is blended in around 10% level in both winter and summer..

The higher btu/gal in summer fuel means more energy/gal and better mpg.
