Some people remove their tailgates for spacekabs or cabs that have the walk-in door. Or some older 5th wheel/gooseneck trailers require it, depending on the geometry.

I can understand how annoying it could be. Ford would have to carefully implement it to allow it to be disabled when intended. Could even auto disable if the camera is not found (tailgate removed).

I have a tonneau cover, which I have never had before, and I can't visually confirm the tailgate is up from the drivers seat. I have had it not fully latch before too, and I don't even have the button to drop the tailgate. I've also seen people driving off from places with the tailgate down, so it is a small concern of mine.

It doesn't seem like the issue at hand is really about a warning or notifier that the tailgate is dropped, but more so that the FOB has the ability to open the tailgate accidentally without the user's knowledge. Seems like working towards a FOB solution to help prevent accidental opening may be a better approach, as someone suggested earlier. Not sure if this is something that can be disabled via FORSCAN, or if you actually have to open up the FOB remote to disable/modify the button itself.

I'm more worried about the release being hit when I have a trailer on and the tailgate wacking the tongue jack!

I would be happy if the truck knew when the tailgate was open so it could stop telling me that I'm about to back into it. Getting a dash icon as well would be a bonus, especially when I wasn't the one to close the tailgate.

When you have a bed cover sometimes you forget and that forget will be spread on the road. One message won't kill anybody on startup. I don't here people losing their heads on the trailer disconnected message.

I think some type of indication that the tailgate is down would be nice. I have a bed cover also so I can’t tell if the tailgate is down from the cab. The truck lets you know if any door is open so why not the tailgate.

I played around with it on my 2018. I had it wired and tested and may move forward with it as it's pretty simple. Do I need it? No. But it'll give me something to tinker with I suppose. Here's a video I made of the testing.it only pops up in the IPC and there is no chime. So I don't think it would be too obnoxious. I put the truck in drive and same result but did not actually move the truck. May check and see if there is any kind of chime or anything annoying that happens at speed at a later time.

Okay. I tested while driving. If the tailgate opens while driving you will get a audible alert and message in IPC. You hit okay and it goes away and does not come back on.

Just get used to placing in 'Reverse' before moving the truck. Your backup cam will immediately trigger the reverse proximity sensor and your screen will show the ground if gate is down.

I wake up at night in a cold sweat thinking about this. I almost let mine go the other day when I was putting a bag of tools in with a trailer jack square in the middle that was begging to whack my tailgate.
