Why no tailgate ajar warning?
2018 lariat 502a and still no tailgate ajar warning message.
I heard a small clunk when pulling out of the driveway but didn’t think much of it. Drove to the store, shopped around and came out to notice the tailgate was down. The keyfob must have triggered it when I got in the truck.
This has happened twice in the 3 weeks I’ve had the truck.
I thought the truck would have a tailgate ajar message.
Is there a way to disable the remote tailgate release?

There is no such message.
Some have opened the fob and cut the nib. Others put the fob in a case.

Tailgate ajar warning would become quite the nuisance for people who are constantly carrying loads/dirtbikes/wood with their tailgate down. Most likely why there is not a tailgate ajar warning.

Dismissing a tailgate ajar message 1 time when the truck turns on would be less annoying than spilling my tools out on the highway because the keyfob in my pocket decides to drop the tailgate

I've been thinking about making one:
Switch like this for the tailgate:
An LED like this mounted around the dash somewhere:
And/or you can use a buzzer, and finally a second switch either in the cab or at the tailgate to disable the alert when you know the tailgate is down intentionally.
You can even get fancier with a module like this and only set off the buzzer after a time delay:

Adding: I don't have a lariat with that fancy remote for opening a tailgate so I don't know your struggle.

First world problems: "my fob accidentally put my automatic tailgate down on my princess truck, I wish there was a warning to let me know the tailgate was down".
For those of us who are used to how trucks have been for the past several decades, not having a warning chime is just fine. Talk about being an obnoxious warning chime. That thing would make me want to shoot my truck.

2015- early 2016 trucks had it...then Ford disabled it when people had issues with the tailgate switch. Mine was one that had it and was subsequently disabled after being brought in for another TSB.

I did not realize the truck even had remote tailgate until I took delivery. I don’t think I will ever use this feature. I wonder if it can be disabled with forscan or something.
Some of you are overly sensitive about warnings.
99% of the time when driving I want the tailgate closed.
“Tailgate ajar, press OK to dismiss”
...it would be one of the more useful warnings already equipt on the truck.
