It is seam sealer. Yours doesn't look bad at all, don't let your dealer touch it. The 04-08 trucks used to have a black trim piece that covered it. Just another cost cutting measure I'm sure.

Yeah OP yours is not that bad at all. When my buddy got his new truck that was the first thing I noticed. His is way worse then yours. I would be pissed with his. One side of mine is a little wonky but not too bad. I have seen so many trucks with crazy bad ones.
Quality control is definitely not good.

Look on the bright side, my local dealer had a 15 delivered to them that was missing the seam sealer all together on one side.....

Yeah, I read somewhere that this was a fairly common unfortunately. Mine are pretty decent until it starts curving down and then it gets a little wavy - not nearly as much as yours though.

I'd worry more about why you're putting your truck through an automatic contact car wash..

Ouch guys - I get that it's being a little picky on his end, but at the same time after dropping over $50k I can see why some people get really particular about smaller details.

As far as the car wash goes, lots of people take cars through without issues. I would agree he should be taking responsibility for removing all loose pieces, but it was still interesting to see and at the very least educational for anyone else who may use a car wash in the future.

Let's try to keep it civil - we are all here to help and learn - at least I am anyway.

Mine has the same thing. I took it into the dealer and Ford offered to sand it flat and repaint the roof under warranty. I ended up declining as I have no guarantee it will match the rest of the paint and it will never have the factory finish.

I guess I don't see how this is considered being picky haha. I definitely don't expect my truck to be perfect (within the first couple days of owning it the driver side window track came undone), but to me this seems like half baked effort in manufacturing. If both sides had a bit of wave it would make more sense, but I don't understand how one side can be perfectly straight and the other can be distorted. Maybe there's someone out there familiar with the process that could explain.

Well, it's on the roof so it's not visible to the average person. We have to keep in mind these are still trucks, not Audis.

Like others have mentioned above, it's normal to have a somewhat uneven finish - some are worse then others. The biggest difference is the previous generation had a piece of black molding which hid the imperfections and this gen doesn't have one.

Maybe there's an aftermarket trim piece somewhere you can add to help hide it?
