Default What is this shield for?

I have a 2016 F-150 with the 2.7L engine. There is a cover or shield under the engine from the front below the fan belt extending back perhaps a couple of feet or so. Is there a name for this and what is its purpose. I'm asking because the darn thing blew off while on the freeway several days ago and I'd like to know if I should replace it?

Hah holy crap that's a first I've heard of that... I'm assuming you have an FX4? If so, that was your skid plate.

No, it's not an FX4. I forgot to say that it was made out of a heavy felt-like material, definitely not metal so I'm sure it wasn't a skid plate.

Under Cover is the name. It's there to keep rocks and debris from kicking up and damaging things, and water from getting on the belts and squeaking or causing rapid cooling of components. It also aids in aerodynamics and works for the overall radiator/intercooler flow.

I was surprised at that tray first time I crawled under my '18 3.5 EB. Sounds like the OP must have had a recent oil change and someone forgot to replace all the screws.

While it provides a limited amount of protection and aerodynamics, it's primary mission is to prevent oil dripping. Of course I read that on the Internet, so be careful what you believe.

The parts catalog calls it an air deflector. Sorry I reread your post and realize your talking about the undercover.

Go to Tasca sight and look up the 2.7. Better price.

Yup... mine's a great oil collector! Every time I do an oil change, I notice my pan is leaking like crazy. Thank goodness this thing keeps my garage floor clean.
