Default What is this grate?

I have a 2016 XLT. Under the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, righthand side of the steering wheel, this little grate appears. Anyone know what it is for or a spot for on higher models?

I believe that's for the In-Vehicle temperature/humidity sensor. Picture below is what's behind the vent:

I THINK it's for the cabin temperature sensor. It's definitely not a coin holder.

It is the cabin temperature sensor.
The 2 bare wires (that merge together) you see towards the right side of your picture are what actually reads the temperature.
