If the suggestions above don't resolve the text issues, try performing a module reset and pair the phone back with a clean connection. To reset the module: Select radio > Hold the power button (center of the volume ****) + the right-seek button at the same time for up to 5 seconds. Keep me posted!

Thanks Voltruck but that didn't cover my problem. I can receive text messages on the sync screen and I get the menus provided ("hear it", "reply"). But if I am driving and want to send a text message to my wife, I should be able to hit the voice command button on the steering wheel and tell the system to send a text. This is where the problems is: I can't do that but according to the manual I should be able to.

Yea, it's an issue with how Apple sets up the Bluetooth chip in iPhones. It's much better than it used to be. Before the last MFT update you had to use the button on your phone to bring up Siri.
