Default Using Factory Navigation Question

Probably a dumb question, so I apologize. Tried searching, but couldn’t find what I was looking for...probably didn’t use the right words...anyways....

Is there a way to use the factory navigation while my iPhone is plugged into the truck? If my phone is plugged in, only apple maps and google maps can be used. With no phone, then I can use the factory nav. Small problems, I know. But it was nice to use the nav in my Ram while also using Apple Maps or google maps.

Thanks!

No. If an iPhone or Android are plugged in, you can only use the navigation apps from CarPlay or Android Auto. If you want the phone plugged in to charge, you can disable CarPlay or Android Auto to use the built-in navigation. Or, just use a power port adapter in your accessory power port to power your phone with out disabling CarPlay or Android Auto.

Don't know about iphones and nav but...
On all my vehicles with Nav, i personally don't trust any of them.
Instead i initially use an older school method of going to Google maps to plot a course to where i want to end up at.
Realizing on a long cross country trip this might not be practical without a wifi connection.

I plug my iPhone 8 in on occasion and still use the factory Nav. I just don't have CarPlay turned on in the phone. I usually just bluetooth connect the phone as I hate having to pull it out of my pocket every time I get into the truck, but if it needs charging I plug it in.

Google maps can be downloaded for offline use.

Interesting. Ok. Thank you guys! I'll play around with it a bit the more I drive it. I have a standard car charger I can always use if I really want too. Ive encountered several discrepancies over the years between navigation platforms, which is why I like having a couple running at the same time, especially while pulling my trailer. Definitely don't want to get into a situation that I cant easily get out of.

Thanks!

Lately the only places I go are Walmart and work and got those two mostly figured out, but HERE Maps is the provider Ford and several other OEM's use. With their phone app you can download the entire continent (or world) to your phone in one shot. Turns it into a Garmin, has a setting for "use app offline, search and navigate without a wifi or cellular network connection". Can choose automatic map updates, and set to allow updates on only wifi or wifi/cellular. Used to be the stock nav app on Windows phones. RIP.

I'm able to use factory nav when my iPhone is connected, either by Bluetooth or by cable.
