USB connection on Sync 3
I have a 2016 Lariat and every time I connect my phone ( Samsung Note 4) by usb cable it begins playing a series of downloaded chimes and notifications. Each time I try to search the various options like artist or album on the touch screen, it tells me "unable to search while device is indexing" I left it plugged in for well over an hour and always the same result. I can play music on my phone while connected by audio bluetooth and it will play on the vehicle sound system at a greatly reduced volume. Any suggestions or advice what I am not doing correctly? I have muddled through the manual with no luck. I would like to use the sync screen to select music from my phone..Thanks for any insight.
Sorry I dont want to Hijack this thread but i think the thread title is perfect for my question. I just picked up my 2016 XLT, in my previous ford (with old MFT sync) i use to use a USB thumb drive (64gig) loaded with music. I noticed today that this new truck with sync 3 wont load the drive. Anyone have any input on this?
When playing over bluetooth, you should be able to turn up the BT volume. On my phone that's the only time BT volume can be adjusted (WHILE it's playing) and the default volume was 20 out of 30. At 30, it plays at the same volume as anything else. Give that a try.

Things to try:
- Lower the amount of items (I think its limited to 50,000 songs)
- Choose one mode or the other (Folder structure or all files in root - Either way, Sync 3 should reorganize by ID3 info embedded in the file)
- Try a different USB Port
- Try a different USB drive
- Try a different format (FLAC, MP4, WMA, WAV, or AAC)
If you can't browse or explore the device, it could be related to the USB drive having some issues or needs to be formatted again.
Are you able to use the "browse" feature? Or "Explore device"?
