Default Upgrade Sync 1 to Sync 3?

Is it possible to remove my Sync 1 and install Sync 3? I have a '16 F150 XLT, 2.7L.

If you mean go from 4" (Sync 2) to 8" (Sync 3), then yes. Working on the same with my 2015 XLT.

Is it a direct plug-in, or do you have to fiddle with different wiring? Touch screen works? Fully functional? I've priced the Sync 3 radio at about $1500.

there is one on ebay

Also I have created a few harnesses to make it as plug and play as possible. the swap isn't that bad to do.

You will need a apim, screen, antenna, bezel and need a harness to connect the new hardware since the old connections will not work. I am working to try and get the parts from a dealer since I cannot find the APIM w/nav and screen w/ F150 brackets.

Money solves everything, if I was looking to upgrade, I might look at an aftermarket unit.

Aftermarket is cheaper, just depends on what you are looking for. I have seen a lot of different kits on the mustang6g forum, not sure how they would work on a F150, but you could check.

If you want to go to OEM SYNC 3, you will be spending atleast $1500 for all the parts (unless you find a wrecked vehicle locally, that will save $$$)

Don't forget about programming the APIM to your as built data. That's where my hangup will be. I don't have a laptop for forscan, and I doubt the dealer would be helpful.

Yup, you will need to program the APIM to your VIN as well. I haven't done it but have forscan and probably ask someone knowledgeable when the time comes.
