Default Uncomfortable Headrest Solved

I just made a discovery that is new to me so I thought I’d share it just in case others are as duh as me.

If you tip your headrest all the way forward it releases the “ratchets” which allows you to then tilt it all the way back away from your head. Of course you can then “click” it forward to your desired tilt.

For a year now I’ve always thought the headrest could be a little less intrusive on my neck and therefore a little more comfortable.

A big “duhhh” moment for me. Lol.

Thanks for that tip! Gonna try it out next time i jump in my truck.

With this great forum, no need to read that voluminous encyclopedia of a manual designed to cover every single trim and multitudes of options.
The first and last time i tried to read that entire manual, found out its best use is a cure for insomnia.

Thank you for the "pro tip"! I am also new to F150's so I didn't know this. My headrest is much better now! Thank you! I share your "duh" moment...

Here is another tip to try, my wife is not very tall, 5’5” and she never liked the angle of the head rest even though it was fine for me at 6’0”, so I removed it and then put it back in backwards to angle it back away from her head more. Now she loves it and is very comfortable.

The headrests are actually head restraints to minimize whiplash. Turning it around backward will allow the head restraint to fully tilt back when your wife's head snaps back in a rear-ender. It is called a hangman's fracture. A little comfort now may result in a long-term injury after an accident. I was an EMT many years ago and saw the benefit of most safety features while responding to motor vehicle accidents. Also, I learned to never buy a compact car especially a Geo Metro.

What GMC to Ford said. Those are head restraints, not head rests.
Many head restraint complaints can be resolved by simply reclining the seatback a small amount.

That makes sense, not too concerned for her though only because she is so short in the seat that her head is barely above the top of the seat, I will make her aware of it for sure though. Thanks

I checked the head rests in her truck and mine, they do not move forward and back only up and down in the XL models, so no worries.
