Transmission issues
For the past few weeks I have been noticing a hard shift between 1-3 and sometime 3-5. It will also bog down at times when changing into the higher gears. Usually once it’s warm it is not noticeable. The other day in sport mode it changed to second gear then felt like it cut all power and was going to stall. Today it has started to jump from 8-1 and back up to 8. Is there anything I should look into before bringing it in? Anyone have this issue in the past? Truck has about 81k miles and has only been used for light towing a handful of times.

Should have a poll started on this but sounds by those symptoms not good and hold on to you wallet the transmission going to be laying on the bench and a new CDF drum, seal kit and friction kit cha ching.
I was about to make a transmission thread also. I have a 2018 XLT super crew 2.7L, 5.7' bed that I bought used about 5 months ago with 44k miles on it, now has 51k miles. It appeared to be pretty clean and not beat on, the bed was basically new and looked like it was never loaded up. The hitch looked unused also like it never towed anything.
I brought it in to Ford to check the tranny (mostly as a precaution), both front heated seats don't get hot, rear window defogger didn't work and rear drivers door lock actuator was dead. The tranny seemed to rumble very slightly when i shifted from drive to reverse to back into my driveway. I found it better to wait a few seconds after shifting into reverse before stepping on the gas to roll back and it was much better. After having it a week and not hearing from them from my 3 previous messages I got the service manager on the phone. He nonchalantly tells me, The tranny is shot, already ordered one, covered under the power train warranty. Goes on to tell me the heated seat element needs to be replaced and also have to replace the entire rear window, haven't looked into the lock actuator yet.
Are tranny issues common on these? 51k miles and a shot tranny, damn.

Yep that's what mine was, 2018 with 72k miles and doing similar stuff to OP's. Got progressively worse until it got stuck in gear one day.

I actually really enjoyed the combo until this happened.
Checked codes via forscan and there is nothing in the TCM.

Left the driveway and it shifted real nice into third. Then did a dance up and down the gears and a see manual light came on and a wrench. Said reduced power due to awd/4wd system and would only use 6th and 8th gears for the drive. Service advisor said they will perform the latest software update first then if that doesn’t work they will inspect valve body then tear into transmission if needed.
Had this done. Said it would take 500-1000 miles for it to go through the learning process. Drive home it’s felt normal. There was an instance where the gear indicator numbers jumped around but I didn’t feel anything going on with the transmission when it did it.
