Checked into the forum to look for other suffering this problem. If anyone can find an actual email for the CEO I will be contacting them. My 18 F150 2.7 Lariat left me stranded prior to Christmas. I have been on the Merry Go Round to get them to pay for a new trans even tho I am long past warranty since my service visits indicate poor shifting and shuddering on hard accel. When Ii called a trans shop he said they all buy from the same place and the new trannys are terribly hard to come by. When I contacted a lawyer I have worked with in the past, lo and behold, he himself lost a Ford trans on a Navigator after common shuddering on hard accel. Lucky for him it happened in the indisputable warranty period. His repair took 8 weeks and they gave him a loaner after 3 weeks. Well I cannot afford to wait them out so I will have a salvage trans installed and pursue them legally to get as much as I can back.

Does your lawyer feel you have a case worth fighting for?

I just took a look at some Chev/GMC forums and see the same kinds of Trans complaints with 8 and 10 speeds behind all their different engines.
The grass is no Greener in their yards, either.

Ask your lawyer about a class action lawsuit. Seems like many people have had the same problem.

My '18 5.0 recently started doing weird stuff but only when the trans is cold. Once a have a couple miles on it, it works perfectly fine. I pulled out of my driveway about a week ago and put it in drive and felt fine and as I eased out into the street, it went into what felt like neutral and wouldn't move. I put it in park and back in drive and it worked fine. 1-3 shift is harsh but only for the first shift. It doesn't do it again after getting even a little heat into it.

Sounds like the tranny fun is about to get started for you.

Don't know how true this is but someone in the performance industry mentioned that this transmission was made to handle heat extremely efficiently. That's also the reason for the low viscosity fluid. The trans' operating temp doesn't perform well at all under 180 degrees. He mentioned this is the reason most people say there's is not quite right when cold. A result of driving it after starting it while the odd behavior is present causes much faster than normal wear.

Ford/GM designing a trans that can't operate correctly without warming to a certain temp makes no sense. No idea if the cold fluid part is true or not but seems plausible. The fact that they didn't take into account the temperatures that one of these trucks can see anywhere in the biggest market is a let down. Warming something for it to operate correctly, sounds like we're regressing instead of progressing.

Thats very interesting. So even if we get a certified Ford rebuilt tranny if it is operated below the 180 degrees it is going to wear faster than normal and we may be in the same situation as with the original tranny. So to avoid that what do we do? How do you warm up a trany without driving it? Does letting it idle warm it enough to get to or close to 180?

I'm on trans #2. Mine was replaced at around 39k last March I have to double check but I believe I'm right around 50 now. The original was exhibiting many symptoms that are commonly described by others. The dealer decided to replace it and it was back to how it was when new. The same first problem I had with the original was back just a couple of weeks ago. I didn't remote start it. I was leaving work and it was 22 degrees out. I pulled out of the lot and it slipped terribly out of first as I proceeded down a rural residential street-in other words, slowly. I don't often just hop in and drive, but I should be able to. Their rush to development to meet some sort of economy requirement has produced a subpar product. I still am amazed and find it difficult to believe some people have no issues at all ever. Maybe in warm climates? These are just my observations on my truck. My neighbor has a 2.7 and buddy around the corner has the 3.5. Both have had trans work done.

I did get an Oz tune roughly 400 miles ago/1 month ago. The shift strategy is so much improved. It actually reacts to throttle input now and the hunting that I felt is gone. I still don't have faith that the trans itself will hold up since I'm not aware of any internal upgrades over the original trans.

Are there any with this new gen F150-strictly internally?
