This is why I am always skeptical about what "they" say. Can't trust salesman, dealers, or manufacturers...

Aside from the hitch's rating decal, here's the easiest way to identify which hitch a truck has. In the first photo you'll notice the HD Trailer Tow hitch's safety chain reinforcement plate is perpendicular to the hitch. The Max. Trailer Tow hitch's safety chain reinforcement plate is at a 45* angle to the hitch.

The problem with both of those plates is that there is too much material outside of the hole for some chain hooks. I ended up adding rings and attach my chains to those rings.

I'm not sure what to call them. I think I got them at Tractor Supply. They are an oval ring with a threaded end and nut that allows you to slip them on and then tighten the nut to close them.
