Default Trailer Tow Pkg (53A) vs Max. Trailer Tow Pkg (53C) - Rear Bumper

The Max. Trailer Tow Pkg. (53C) includes an "Upgraded Rear Bumper".

What does that really mean? The only difference is the reinforcement:

As I mentioned in my previous post I don't tow anything - at all. This was purely an exercise and investment in knowledge for both myself and anyone that reads this post.

Perhaps someone that is in the market for a new truck will have read this thread and call out a Salesman that is trying to blow smoke up his *** on why he should pay extra for the Max. Trailer Tow Pkg that he really doesn't need.

Look at it this way, now you know the difference and it didn't cost you anything.

Pictures of the Max. Trailer Tow Pkg. (53C) FL3Z-17D826-C reinforcement. My price w/Fleet discount was $234.60.

Wow thanks man, finally a definitive answer to this question! Looks like it's the bracing BEHIND the bumper that improved, not the bumper itself.

This weekend I will be upgrading the Trailer Tow reinforcement for the Max. Trailer Tow reinforcement. I will have both reinforcements side by side where I can compare the differences and I will post pictures.

I hope the rating decal isn't the only difference. That would be one expensive decal !!

The really ironic part about this whole deal is, I don't even tow anything. I consider this an investment in knowledge. It was worth $234 to me to be able to answer this question - since the dealers either can't or won't.

Whats the towing capacity difference between the two?

Nice pictures.

NVM, saw that. Duh.

Is 240 bucks and a whole lotta work worth an increase of 1K lbs? Debating it...

So help me understand the first picture of the sticker.

Does it mean without a weight distributing hitch you can only have a max trailer weight of 5,000# and a tongue weight of 500#?

But if you utilize a weight distribution hitch you can tow 12,100# with a max tongue weight of 1,210#?

If so wouldn't that mean all these guys with these wakeboard boats that weight about 6,000# when you add up, boat, trailer, gear, and fuel would technically need a weight distribution hitch just to go to the lake?

I really don't think it's that much work. R&I the rear bumper is a 30 minute job. I expect another 30 minutes to disassemble & assemble the bumper.

Yes. The way I understand the ratings.
ANY trailer over 5000# or 500# tongue weight should have a WDH. Per the tow ratings.
