Trade in values
I sold my 2007 KR after 3 years for $6,000 less than I paid for it (D plan, incentives). I wonder if my 2015 will provide similar equity retention with these higher sticker prices?
This thread is a wasteland of lacking information. On one level-If your happy, I'm happy too!
As for this thread as a source of usable info I'll just say-no.
If you think a dealer is going to stay in there for the long haul on a business plan of wholesale to wholesale trading-I'll shut up.
same for posting of state law & trade-in credit related threads- can be useful for some people-DMV links maybe better?

I have tried for a useful thought when I had one and have found this forum better than some I've tried over the years on various subjects. FWIW, I had a guy throwing large rocks at me over on the Tundra Talk forum sometime back. It was over a simple subject called wheels. I had pulled the window sticker from my file cabinet and named the wheel per that info.(called AA by Toyo) & further stating it was the most common wheel on that level Tundra. The subject/my subject was OE wheel finish issues and the result was I left that forum quietly as it wasn't worth trying to make posts I felt useful to other owners. It had the word "alloy" vs. "aluminum" as a huge
catchpoint? The list gets longer, much longer. Not stuff I care to argue. I'm known as a stable lucid man that respects others.
Many buyers/owners on this forum have been at it a long time and learned things I can use. Others are far from reaching my level of "deals made" & wrenches pulled on vehicles. That's a fact. In spite of my experience buying, each time is somewhat of a new adventure( love the truck, hate the process) in the marketplace as stuff changes.
All to say it's complicated enough w/o throwing in your junk.

You might check -I didn't say the thread topic was flawed-it's the information-lack there of.
If you don't like the thought then attacking me personally seems to be your choice of direction?
Trade-in amounts being called certain values mean nothing w/o the whole deal. "Over stated trade in "values"" are nothing new & popping up in this thread. The result over time is the actually inflated values placed on used cars/trucks.
Not my invention.
NADA is notorious for this.
Up-side down car transactions are everyday occurences and the transcripts of the dealer ads says this.
As for a "defense" of my participation, I'll just say that some of us speak our mind on the SUBJECT& past experience & training. I always try for staying on point but these trucks are this old boys "ultimate candy store delight" as I move toward an order in next few days.
Web vehicle forums lean heavily toward talk about things like tires, wheels and the ultimate villain-OIL... That's what the average guy can do for /on their truck. I'm admittedly out of date on vehicles-tech wise. My 27 years in tech ed stands and I do try to make comments that are helpful.
In this case it was my crude way of saying-post the whole deal or nothing.
I see spots where my particular experience might help someone. On this I was saying what the Curmugeon had said recently, when I started a thread "post your 2015 deal" awhile back. Like he stated it was wishful thinking on my part...

PAKINGRANCH13 -Please don't mess this forum up with personal attacks, thanks.
The state sales tax laws can be dollar helpful-the real hardship in shopping a trade means driving it to each dealer and that takes time and money. otoh, i can private sell it from my door/computer and typically get a better price than true wholesale. At times your trade-in deal can match or exceed private sale amounts -still the catcher is the details and not a process some can pull off.
My best deal is from a state border dealer that knows for sure that he must match the taxes I can save on a trade-in deal in KY near him. I'm not trading but it softens my deal with him as he eats part/all of that tax savings. Several states have laws that favor the buyer and allow a tax savings for private sales-THATS!!! a consumer friendly sales tax law-unless your trying to fund big guvmnt?
Buying a vehicle is such a nasty thing that it's no wonder many just say -take it and leave me alone.

I don't like to agree with rants, but kantuckid is right.
The trade in value received only matters with the whole deal. If I post a dealer gave me 55k for my fx4 on a trade, it would look like I got a truck free. But if I buy the '15 at 80k, the deal doesn't sound so good.

I think it's always wise to bargain for the price of the new truck without interjecting or mentioning a trade. If not the dealer can play both sides of the coin by giving you a low price on the 2015 and making up for the difference by lowballing the trade. Just my thoughts.

Good thoughts and advice...should be a Golden Rule of buying for mature buyers.
This is usually what I try to do I dont tell the dealer I have a trade until im about to sign the contract. They sometimes get pissed and it draws out the process but its how you get the best deal. However with ford if you have AZX plan pricing it shouldn't make a difference on new truck. You just need to know what your trade in is worth market value and heavily negotiate that because the new trucks price is already set at that point and is not negotiable per fords plan pricing rules.
