Default Trade In Value, Modified VS Restore To Stock?

I've kept most of the stock parts...Tires, Wheels, Shocks, Grill, Lights, Emblems etc. I’ve been tempted to sell them. When the time comes to trade or sell my truck-->Would the average Dealer realistically give me the Same, More or Less if I leave the Modifications on the Truck VS Returning It To Stock?

My guess, return it as close to stock/factory as possible.

Would like to hear from past F-150 owners personal experiences as well as those in the vehicle selling business.

What's the $martest move?

all depends on the dealer to be honest, some might want it as it sits and they are willing to pay for that or they don't care and it wont affect their offer

Take it all off. They don't care about your mods nor will they pay for them. I had trade in values done with my 1st truck ( 8" MFT upgrade, led tails, BFF ko2,fox coils etc) then pulled it all off and got trade values again and they where very close. Actually got a better deal once returned to stock. Don't throw away your money.

much like restoring a vehicle your chance of recouping more than a fraction of your investment is very slim. i personally know this from restoring 2 old Harley's and one truck. the outside chance that a potential buyer will be interested in the mods, the brand and type of parts used to do the mod, and more particularly the price range of the mods is a thousand to one. unless someone is planning on keeping a vehicle for years (i typically have owned my primary rides for 10+ yrs) keep the mods practical and of a cost factor that will not lead to a blood letting if you determine to sell.

many of the wise ones here state, over and over (and for good reason) - Keep your OEM parts so you can return it to stock. your "take-offs" going back stock will recoup some of the money invested, but only a fraction.

Yup if you want to try and recoup anything take the mods off and sell them. The dealer doesn't care in the least about paying for them.

Just did this back in October of last year. My dealer, that I'm on very good terms with, wanted it stock as much as possible. They wanted it to appeal to a larger group, which from their point of view makes sense. They also knew that all the mods were nothing but the best quality, and the truck had never been abused.
But, there are way too many out there that would think some kid had owned it, and who knows what kind of offroad abuse the truck might have suffered. No one would have believed the dealer on that, and likely would have figured they just did a good detail on it. I got top dollar for that truck.
Ya, it would depend on the dealer, and what the market might be in their area.
Myself, I keep ALL OEM parts, and either reinstall the aftermarket parts on the new truck, or sell them afterwards. The aftermarket parts I've sold off the olde one, pretty much paid for what I've done on this new one.

Would you want to buy my truck or buy a stock one and do what you want with it? Take those mods off. But, if you care at all about your resale value, sell the vehicle on your own. There isn't a dealer out there that will pay you for what the vehicle is worth on the private market. Showing up without a trade-in also takes out some of the voodoo that the dealer loves to throw your way in an attempt to trick you into thinking that you are getting a good deal on whatever your next vehicle is. Dealers are for-profit entities, you should be too.

I took a mint and kind of hard to find Toyota 4Runner to Ford Dodge Toyota and Nissan when I bought my F150. They all offered me about the same 18k with Toyota offering 16.5k. The KBB was 21.5k. I listed it on craigslist and had a few "would you take 15k for it" offers over 4-5 days. A younger and hipper coworker told me to try Facebook marketplace. It allows better pictures and looks like a pro advertisement it you spend 5 minutes on it. I sold it for $22,250 36 hours later. There are lots of options out there and they're all better than the paltry trade in allowance ($1k from Ford when I was looking) the dealer might offer you while they're undercutting your trade in value.

It's a great looking truck. For convenience, I'd leave it as-is if I was trading it...since the money is going to be about the same. No reason to bloody your knuckles if you won't gain anything.
I would expect your truck to sell easier than a stock one, but that's just my opinion because I like it's looks. Selling quicker doesn't necessarily translate to more money for it, but who knows?

In my experience whether trading in or selling privately, nobody cares about aftermarket add-ons and they won't pay more for it, no matter how awesome they are. But in some cases if the looks are changed significantly, they may even offer less because they don't like how it was personalized. Your taste doesn't always reflect everyone else's.
