Default Trade difference??

I was curious what other owners thought would be a fair trade difference would be....

Here's what I have - 2015 F150 Crew, 4x4, Magnetic, 30k miles. 302A, Console, 36 gallon tank, 20" wheels, chrome appearance, tow package, bedliner, wheel well liners, good condition.

I like my truck exactly as optioned. I ran across a 2016 in Blue Jeans that was the same except for the following -- Tailgate step, Navigation, no bedliner and no wheel well liners.

If the 2 trucks were new, the blue one should sticker around $1000 more than mine, maybe slightly less.

I don't really need a new one, but I like the blue and I thought if I could get a decent difference, I'd go for a new one.

I had my title with me and was ready to buy if the numbers were okay.

They came back with a 21,500 difference before tax. This would total $23,005 OTD, provided they weren't planning to spring any other fees on me.

This seemed very excessive. Adjusting for the extra couple of options on the new truck, this says that 30,000 miles of driving cost me nearly 22 grand.

Just curious if others thought this was in the ballpark of where it should be or was this particular dealer just trying to hit a home run?

Thanks

VERY excessive. Where did you go? I just traded my '14 with 35k miles, bought new in 2/15. MSRP of 47.5 on that one, to my '16 I ordered with an MSRP of 51.5. Trade difference of 10. I wouldn't do it for a penny more, just not worth that much to me.

What does Cars.com, Edmunds.com, KBB.com, or NADAguides.com value your 2015 at?

Did you play on each site with mileage to determine the effect of +/- 10,000 miles on your 2015's value?

"Good" condition is really not good. A 1 year old truck should be "Excellent" unless you have exterior damage or you trashed the inside. My vehicles are "Excellent" for most of their lives.

Did you know the invoice, and incentives, of the truck you were considering buying?

With twice the normal annual miles driven you will take a hit on your 2015. Navigation adds thousands to the 2016's price, and you can move your wheel well liners yourself.

By "Good" condition, I only meant that my truck is nice. I wasn't going by the "book" definition of the term. My interior looks nearly new and the exterior shows nothing more than normal wear.

Navigation is $795, not "thousands"

I know that wheel well liners can be added after the fact but new ones still cost a little bit and I have no interest in swapping used parts from my trade.

I didn't investigate any book values or incentives, as the OTD trade difference is really all I'm concerned with.

There are a couple of guys here at work that trade their Chevys / GMCs in at 2 years/60000 miles for 10 grand. They have both been doing this since I've worked here ('08) Their trucks are optioned similar to the way mine is. Neither of them go to the same dealer every time, so it's not a matter of the dealer just taking care of a repeat customer.
I really thought that I'd at least be close to that number.

Dealerships get you coming and going and 30,000 is a lot for 2015, that said, it seems like they are asking a lot. Do you need a step, if so I heard that you can swap out the tail gate. You can also always repaint your truck, if your really want to. Also I have seen sites that can sell you the items to add navigation to your truck.

New vehicles are never a good financial decisions. Granted the used truck market for late models is not that great for buyers and in many cases you can buy new for cheaper than used, after incentives. That is the only reason I am looking at new truck and I am spending a year of research and patiently waiting to get what I want for the price I want. If I were you, I would keep the truck, just think of what other toys you could buy with $21,000. Do you get mileage written off or paid for? If so that will offset, though it might be be better waiting a couple of years, then selling it. The 2017's are almost out and they come with a more powerful 3.5 EB and 10spd.

I see a lot of people on this forum are into their trucks as almost a hobby. The need and want for some on this forum to get the latest truck seems to build off each other. On other hobby forums people might spend a couple hundred or maybe a thousand on an impulse purchase, though on this forum, it goes well beyond tens of thousands. Think about the future, are you maxing out your 401k/IRA, saving for kids college's, do you have any outstanding debt (non-mortgage), or have money saved for a rainy day?

Didn't mean to get on a rant, good luck in any case.

I don't need the step, or navigation. The truck I was interested in just happens to have those things.

The 10 speed trans is part of what made me consider trading now, rather than waiting. It may be great, but I like the one I have and have no complaints about my 3.5/6speed so why take a chance on something new and different.

My truck is paid for, the difference figure would've been in cash. I don't have any debt outside my mortgage.

It's not a matter of what toys I would buy with the 22 grand. I wont be spending it at all. Seems silly to spend that much to sit behind the same dash I'm already sitting behind, only to have that truck lose value just as rapidly.... Before I did that I'd just park the truck and get a 3 or 4 year old fusion to drive.

Yes, your miles are "high" for a 2015. I quotation that because there are guys are here with many more miles.

That being said, the figure your dealer gave you seems very high. $10-$15k seems more realistic, OTD of course. The truck you are in and searching for are a bit rare, non-Sport 302A with chrome pkg and a console is a win/win. Don't forget, Sync 3 which in my opinion is steps above MFT in the 2015.

as a comparison when I bought my truck in july I traded my 2013 Edge Sport. it had 112,000 miles my trade value was 19,700 with that many miles i paid 32,000 with zero down when I bought it.. that dealer is trying to Screw you. pun intended. like Ron carter ford in Alvin Tx. my cousin traded his 2011 ranger supercab 4.0 v6 and got 4,000.....it had 100,000 miles on it. the trade values depend more on the dealer then the acual value of the trade IMO. KBB on his ranger in its condition were 11,000. with those miles. My edge was right on the money for KBB value. I shopped at Joe Myers Ford and they treated me very well.

12k-15K yearly is average miles these days

I would say that is a very low trade offer, or they are not discounting the new truck.

I was going to trade my 2013 FX4 Crew, 3.5, Luxury Pkg, Nav, Moon, 84K Miles on my current truck and they wanted to give me $25K for my truck and I paid $47K for the current one in my signature, ($22K difference) unfortunately here in michigan we do not full tax credit for trade in, or I probably would have traded it in.
