Trade difference??
I Just traded a 14 FX4 Screw, 3.5, Luxury pkg, no nav, or moon with 45,000 on a 16 and they gave me $32,000. The truck was in excellent shape. I bought the truck on A-plan along with the new one. So the trade was my only bargaining power. I was happy with the trade.
I have had great luck with Carmax in the past. 4 different vehicles that I tried to trade in, netted me significantly more by selling to Carmax. It would be a very easy thing... stop off at a Carmax, tell them you're looking to sell, and they have someone drive your truck and give you a written estimate. Shouldn't take you more than 20-30 mins. The estimate is good for 7 days, so you have time to think about it.
In one case, a Honda dealer offered me $2500 trade on a high-miles, 9 year old Accord. Carmax bought it for $4900. A new car dealer hopes/plans to make a good profit on trade-ins. I think Carmax doesn't have quite the margin on their cars, since they refuse to negotiate.

My 2013 to my 2016 was around $10k. Both well equipped Lariats. and close to same MSRP... So a 15 to 16 should EASILY be within $10 plus TTL
I was curious what other owners thought would be a fair trade difference would be....
Here's what I have - 2015 F150 Crew, 4x4, Magnetic, 30k miles. 302A, Console, 36 gallon tank, 20" wheels, chrome appearance, tow package, bedliner, wheel well liners, good condition.
I like my truck exactly as optioned. I ran across a 2016 in Blue Jeans that was the same except for the following -- Tailgate step, Navigation, no bedliner and no wheel well liners.
If the 2 trucks were new, the blue one should sticker around $1000 more than mine, maybe slightly less.
I don't really need a new one, but I like the blue and I thought if I could get a decent difference, I'd go for a new one.
I had my title with me and was ready to buy if the numbers were okay.
They came back with a 21,500 difference before tax. This would total $23,005 OTD, provided they weren't planning to spring any other fees on me.
This seemed very excessive. Adjusting for the extra couple of options on the new truck, this says that 30,000 miles of driving cost me nearly 22 grand.
Just curious if others thought this was in the ballpark of where it should be or was this particular dealer just trying to hit a home run?
Thanks

Actually, when I said no but thanks for your time, he asked what I was thinking. I said he was more than twice what I had in mind. He said, "well that's just not a doable number." I said, okay and left. It was a very small dealership. Parts and service weren't even open on Saturday. Maybe they just really didn't want to take my truck in.
Dealerships get you coming and going and 30,000 is a lot for 2015, that said, it seems like they are asking a lot. Do you need a step, if so I heard that you can swap out the tail gate. You can also always repaint your truck, if your really want to. Also I have seen sites that can sell you the items to add navigation to your truck.
New vehicles are never a good financial decisions. Granted the used truck market for late models is not that great for buyers and in many cases you can buy new for cheaper than used, after incentives. That is the only reason I am looking at new truck and I am spending a year of research and patiently waiting to get what I want for the price I want. If I were you, I would keep the truck, just think of what other toys you could buy with $21,000. Do you get mileage written off or paid for? If so that will offset, though it might be be better waiting a couple of years, then selling it. The 2017's are almost out and they come with a more powerful 3.5 EB and 10spd.
I see a lot of people on this forum are into their trucks as almost a hobby. The need and want for some on this forum to get the latest truck seems to build off each other. On other hobby forums people might spend a couple hundred or maybe a thousand on an impulse purchase, though on this forum, it goes well beyond tens of thousands. Think about the future, are you maxing out your 401k/IRA, saving for kids college's, do you have any outstanding debt (non-mortgage), or have money saved for a rainy day?
Didn't mean to get on a rant, good luck in any case.

You can buy the new one if you qualify for all rebates less the 500 finance for $10k to 11k off the window sticker.
So if it is a 50900 truck you can buy for 40900 less the 32000 you should be in the 9-10k difference if the dealer is giving you 30k off the sticker which it sounds like them shop elsewhere.
As for the small store comment, I manage the Internet department of one and you have to be aggressive with the big dealers out there and fight for the deal every time. Seems to me that they do not want to earn the business.
