Are TPMS sensors standard by default on all new 2016 models?
I got a 2016 Lariat and don't like the 20" chrome wheels. In Alberta there are lots of sets on Kijiji / Craigslist from owners who swap out their new wheels.
I'm specifically after a set of 2016 XLT Sport 18"s as in the photo below and I found a few sets. My issue is some guys say they have TPMS from the factory and others are adamant and insist they don't. I assumed all 2016 Sport XLT wheels have them, but I'd though I'd ask around here first before finding out the hard way.
I searched around online first and didn't find a clear answer. Your feedback is appreciated, thanks.
what is the Canadian equivalent of the NHTSA? Google it just like I did
I did google it, hence my original post.
There is no clear indication of whether or not Ford in Canada has made TPMS standard in all trucks or not. Transport Canada says that it is not a requirement in new vehicles but I have no idea what Ford's decision is and what actual 2016 XLT F150 owners have or don't have.
it also leads me to believe that there must be an OBD2 config under FORScan which can disable TPMS prompts.
Are you buying new or used. If they are telling you they don't and you are buying used its quite likely that the original owner pulled the TPMS and installed on new rims and just put regular valve stems in the old wheels.
You can download the Canadian sales brochure for the F150 and look at standard features. Under safety it says "Individual Tire Pressure Monitoring System (excludes spare)" so I guess its standard on all models. I'm quite surprised since it's not required in Canada that they don't charge extra for it.

I called around town more today. One custom upgrades shop sells brand new take offs (wheel sets with miles from the plant only) and they also confirmed that not all new F150's have TPMS sensors.
I just want to know if these particular sport rims all have them by default (outside the USA) whereas these 18" sport rims are only available with XLT sport packages, of which, Ford Canada may or may not have made TPMS a standardised feature.
That's why I turned to the forums. I'd like to get some feed back from Canadians with these wheels.
I'm going down to my dealer this afternoon to see if they would be willing to swap my 20's for a set of these. Afterall it would increase the sale value for which ever XLT they shove em on and it would make me a happy customer.
