I haven't put it on yet but have used Thule for years and it should go on and off pretty easily.

How easy is the MX4 to operate? How easy is it to remove? Are the tracks at risk for damage if the cover is removed/retracted?

I could not be happier with the MX4. Very easy to operate, very simple. If the tailgate is closed the cover is locked. Can open and close the tailgate without touching the cover. You need to open the tailgate to open the cover but I don't mind that, I like not needing a separate key. You can also drive with the cover folded to the last position or with it flipped up leaving all but 8" (guessing) of the bed open.

Removal is easy, no tools required. I think the tracks would be fine but I'm guessing that running that way was not intended. I would not want to take it off and put back on frequently. I spent a bit of time fiddling with the perfect position for the cover so that it was aligned left to right as well as front to back. Maybe you could mark some reference points but again, I don't think this cover is intended to be frequently removed/installed.

Retracted, absolutely no issues and it is designed for driving while retracted if desired.

2B,
I have been researching this for awhile.......take a look at Tracrac........it is the commercial side of Thule, a little pricey, but very nice! Rather than use brackets, there is a track mounted to the stake pocket holes and the uprights mount to this......it will work with the revolver x2 tonneau......there are a couple of other options I found, I will dig up the info and post later if anyone is interested.....

Mike

It's about 8" in diameter when rolled up.

It is attached to the rails with 4 bolts, so you can remove it easily in a minute or two.

THere's been a lot of discussion on this already: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/carry...y-15-a-312150/

I'm using the Harbor Freight Bed Extender http://www.harborfreight.com/truck-b...der-69650.html with a generic strap-on cross bar over the cab for a 70lb canoe.

This setup works with ANY tonneau cover.

I went with the MX4 also and I have been trying to figure out the best solution for this myself but have pretty much given up. Think I am going to have to end up going to the roof rack. I spent a lot of time on google images and have seen some nice setups, but the way our bed rail caps are laid out doesn't make anything very feasible. 1st off the ridged channels running the length of the bed are different widths from front to back, and if you decide to cut through it to expose the front stake pockets (on the 5.5 ft bed), you have to cut through said channel halfway into the pocket, so whatever you are mounting in there ends up not sitting flush. If I had a flat bed rail cap I would just mount a couple of flush mount rails to it and set a rack up over the cover.

Does anyone have any recommendations for racking options for the kayaks that will also work with the tonneau cover engaged? Most rack options for the bed (would prefer to stay away from the roof unless I have to) seem to require bracketing which would interfere with the tonneau frame. Thanks in advance for your comments.
I have a system that works great for a10' and a 12' kayak. I have the Truxedo Ali-pro tonneau along with an Adarac rack. https://www.realtruck.com/adarac-tru...FQiLaQod0BMHIw
I then just use Thule kayak mounts attached to the racks. Works great and is super secure.

Why can't you just use a rubber shim under the rail mounts to account for the stupid FORD channels in the cap?
