Default Is there a difference? Plat vs Lariat?

I am looking at two trucks, but 216 with similar miles, and each have the options that I am looking for. The main difference is one is a Platinum and the other Lariat. Since the options are pretty close to the same, I am wondering if there are any other behind the scene things that are different hat would make one better than the other for options or packages?

I do plan on doing some other possible upgrades over time, like power mirrors, or suspension, so not sure what the main difference is.

The Platinum has the Multi-Contour front seats (massage/heat/cool) when the Lariat has just heat/cool seats. Heated rear seats with inflatable safety belts are standard on the Platinum, optional on the Lariat. Platinum has lighted scuff plates that a Lariat doesn't get. The Platinum has real wood inserts while the Lariat gets fake wood. BLIS, LED headlamps are standard on platinum, optional on Lariat. Both have power fold mirrors. Platinum gets smokers package, Lariat is optional. The Platinum has different badging. Just about everything else is optional equipment on each.

A well optioned Lariat 502A with Tech Package (like my truck) is very similar to the Platinum less the badging and Multi-Contour front seats.

Probably the only things a Platinum has that you can't option on a Lariat, are the badging, leather and the wood trim. Same for the King Ranch.

Does the "smoker's package" on any trim level include an electric lighter, or just the plastic cup ashtray?

The 2016 brochure is attached to this post. I did not like the massaging seats (uncomfortable/thin) and massive chrome tailgate badging.

On edit: I receive the following error when trying to upload the PDF file ...

Search the internet for the 2016 Ford F150 Brochure. It has all the information that you need to make a decision.

The biggest thing of course is the "I am better than YOU!" mentality that the Platinum brings. The only thing that humbles this type of Platinum owner is...a Limited. Much like a Spoon decal adds 40 hp to your average Honda, a big P L A T I N U M badge across the tailgate adds at least 3" to your manhood!

Haha, I will say I don't like the giant Platinum plate across the back, and haven't looked for it, but may see if I can replace it and buy a small 'Platinum' text to put on the back somewhere.

If i could get all the options I would probably get an XLT, but it sounds like there are a few more options/items that I wasn't aware of or thought about.

I believe the Platinum has nicer leather on the seats, steering wheel, etc.

On the King Ranch, the "K I N G R A N C H" plate across the tailgate means you cheaped out and didn't get the higher option package. Is that the same with the Platinum?

I have never liked wood grain in my vehicles....Keeps me in the XLT range I guess.
