Default Tailgate step sitcking

For a while now my step in the tailgate sticks when pressing the release button. I basically have to push it in and pull the step out with my other hand. Anyone had this happen and figured out a solution?

Try lubricating it? KISS principal.

Yeah tried it before. Didn't do anything. I'm guessing I'll have to pull it all apart and see what's not allowing it to pop out like it should.

Maybe try pb blaster as a lube, seems I recall that helped someone else with rust and corrosion inside, on the step.

I'd be inclined to try spray on lithium grease on every pivot and spring loaded latch.

Yes, a little spray lube. Maybe wipe the dirt off the supports.

I'll have to take the paneling off the tailgate and look once it gets slightly milder out so it's not so painful in the cold weather, haha.

When I swapped in a tailgate with step to my 2018 Lariat, I had the same issue. There is a simple procedure to align the steps - see attached.

Appreciate it. Not sure I understand the reason about loosening the bolts and cycling the step in and out. Just to see if it binds up? Though the stricker latch makes more sense to me. I will have try both when I'm home.
