Default Tailgate step issue

anyone else have this issue?

my tailgate step seems to unlock from its latched position while the tailgate is closed. It sticks up outside of the latch mechanism. Has no issue when you push it back down, but will pop up again some time later. almost like the latch does not hold it as tight as it possible?

thanks!

Effective Aug 24 2015 2015 F-150 - Tailgate Step Pops Up While Driving, Binds While Extending And/Or A Release Button That Sticks.

Some 2015 F-150 vehicles may exhibit a tailgate step that pops up while driving, binds while extending and/or a release button that sticks. The Workshop Manual(WSM) has been updated with improved tailgate step adjustment procedures. Refer to WSM Section 501-04.

I need to go get mine looked at too, as it doesn’t seat down all the way. It’s still latched, but rides about 1/2 inch higher than it should. Mine is a 2015.

Domo Dan, can you keep us posted as mine does the same. I've been to one dealership and they blew me off, saying that's how its supposed to be because of spring pressure.

Was your tailgate step not sitting flush or did you have other issues such as binding or sticking?

Mine was binding, so I performed the service procedure myself (loosen the bolts, basically!) and then tighten back to factory torque settings. Works great now, just like it should.

Do the adjustment first, it's pretty easy.

Had the button sticking issue with mine. Had it in 3 times at the dealership and the last time they replaced it. It still sticks but not as bad as before.

I posted this problem here a while back and a member posted the tailgate step adjustment procedure.
Haven't tried it yet but i gotta say when it works that tail gate step is one great option to have.

The adjustment procedure file is in .pdf format but i don't know how to post a copy of that file here.
Might want to do a search on this forum.
