When I ordered my truck I wasn't going to get the tailgate step but my Mom (who took me to the dealership as I had totaled my '16) said I should get it. Checked one out on the lot because I had only seen them in the brochures. After getting in and out of the bed wearing a neck and back brace (broken vertebrae in my neck) I ordered my truck with the step. It was one of the best decisions I made when ordering my truck I love the tailgate step. When seeing it in pictures it doesn't look that sturdy but it holds my 300+ pounds no problem and love how the grab bar works compared to the previous gen.
The side steps were demonstrated to me on the dealer lot and the salesman couldn't get them unstuck from the up position on a 6.5' bed truck.
What do you call the "UP" position? I would call it "OUT" (deployed) or "IN" (retracted or hidden). If he couldn't deploy them, he didn't know pushing the release button at the center of the step is the way to deploy them. Pushing on the ends latches them in the retracted position.
Some mentioned $325 for both, that's definitely cheaper than adding them afterwards. List price is $830 Canadian for both, I got mine used for $75 for both, only had to slightly adjust the striker on the driver's side for them to work perfectly.
Love the tailgate step and it is a must have option.
I had side box steps on my last truck and not on this one. Wasn’t something I was looking for on either. I rather miss them. At least 2-3 times a month, I wish they were there.
P.s. I’m pretty sure the side box steps are very heavy. Maybe 75lbs. At least they were on the previous body style.

Will the OEM retractable side steps listed as ‘compatible with 2015-2018 model years’ be compatible with 2019 F150 as well?
How was the installation of the retractable side steps? Are specific nuts, bolts, washers needed to mount the steps since they’re mounted to the steel frame as opposed to the aluminum body panel?
